Does anyone know of a good place for dog boarding? The last time I went on vacation I used Shallowford Road Animal Clinic. They have a nice clean place and are good to the animals, but I would like to have other options to choose from. I have 2 Jack Russell's. One is friendly and hyper and the other is laid back and leary of people. And they are my babies. But dog lovers will understand my feelings. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I've had good experiences with the Animal Clinic on Gunbarrel. Pahsa is spoiled rotten at home and always seemed happy enough with it. They are open on Sunday for pickups too.

Pet Inn Kennels on Bonny Oaks is great. It is the next best thing other than having a house sitter like we do. We took two of our dogs there for a weeks vacation and they have an outside play yard along with indoor/outdoor access for all the dogs. They take very good care of them too and they will feed your dog whatever they normally eat if you take the food to them. (i.e. special diets) Very good place for boarding and grooming...

There is a new place right near the Dayton Blvd tunnels called The Ark (I think). It's next to Ambience Modeling company

Yes, it is called The Ark. A friend of mine has used it and says the dog likes it. They have a web site. I have been told that they will put your loved one on camera when you call them to see how it is doing.
Edited because I still can't type and spell at the same time

Pet Inn Kennels by far beats anything other than home. Love that place, and so do our dogs.

Maybe Bob is "bored" .. !!
I heard good things about the Cherokee Blvd place. We've always used 23rd Street to board but are looking at the option of the sitters that come to your house. They'll water your plants too! I tried to find the number of a girl on Signal Mtn that does it but I can't find the number. She was going to charge $10 a visit or $15 for twice a day. She stays for 30 minutes to feed & let them out. We ended up not being able to go anywhere last year and never tried her. She was bonded etc. .. Good luck!

Playdog Excellent is also pretty good.
Another option is getting a pet sitter. I've used them in the past in other areas with very good results. In Wisconsin my pet sitter left detailed notes on how Howler and Samhaine (a cat, no longer with me) was at each visit. The animals loved her and were less stressed from going to a strange place. The sitter I had in Nashville happened to live in the same apartment complex. While her notes weren't AS detailed, she did let me know everything Howler and Bucky did, what they ate and how much, and again both were less stressed out than going into a boarding kennel.
If I didn't have a Notta Husband and an Attic Ogre, I'd prefer a pet-sitter or either Playdog Excellent or The Ark for the dogs. Romeo is easily stressed by being left somewhere strange UNLESS Howler or I are visible at all times. Its bad enough that I have to take both dogs for vet appointments. This last one, the vet cleaned his teeth first so he'd be knocked out while they cleaned Howler's, then when Howler took longer and he woke up and started freaking out they had to let him come into the operation room to keep him calm. He was a perfect gentleman in the operation room, he just every now and then touched his nose to Howler's paw as if to reassure himself that he still had a pack.

I really appreciate all the comments. It is a hard decision to make. If I tried to take them with me, one would puke the whole trip and be a nervous wreck. The other one would be fine, probably. By the way, their names are Jack & Jill (husband named them). Jack used to have really bad separation anxiety until we got Jill. As long as they are together they are fine. But separate them and they cry for each other. My daughter has said she will think about them staying at her house. She has two dogs and a cat. Also a fenced yard. They have stayed at her house a couple of times and it seems to work. Jill hates my son-in-law, but loves my grandson and daughter. Jack loves everybody. Once again, thanks for all the comments. If it doesn't work out with my daughter I will have to make a different decision.

Kennel Creek Pet Resort in Dalton. They take cats too. Super nice people and I've never heard any complaints.

As long as they are together they are fine. But separate them and they cry for each other. At Pet Inn Kennels they can stay in one of the really large indoor/outdoor kennels together and they will take them out together at play time. I used to board two of them together and they stayed together all the time during their stay there. They will even keep them separated from other dogs boarding if you request it. (i.e. if your dogs don't do well with others)

I haven't lived in the Chattanooga area in five years but I used Pet Inn when I lived there and was very happy with them back then. It's good to hear the place still gets good reviews.
Back when I used them I thought they were very reasonable for the quality of care my dogs got.

They can stay in a kennel together at the ark. My dogs like playing at "lucky dog" but I like to board them at the Ark. It's kind of like public school vs. private school.
