By Ian Berry Staff Writer Numbers showing that Hamilton County school administrators received higher pay increases than teachers drew concern Wednesday from several county commissioners. The numbers, released by Commissioner Fred Skillern, show that during the past two fiscal years administrators have received more than 10 percent in raises. That set of statistics was compiled by the county auditor. Another spreadsheet of numbers dating back to 1999 showed much larger increases for many administrators, although Mr. Skillern could not identify the source. "I've never had one human being come up to me and lobby for more money for the central office," Mr. Skillern said. "It's always for the teachers." He also said that in a meeting a couple of years ago he, then-Superintendent Jesse Register and County Mayor Claude Ramsey talked and the superintendent told him nobody would be getting more than a 3.5 percent increase. www.timesfreepress.com/absolutenm/templates/local.aspx?articleid=12647&zoneid=77

from the TFP article on HCDE administrative raises:
Another spreadsheet of numbers dating back to 1999 showed much larger increases for many administrators, although Mr. Skillern could not identify the source.(emphasis added)
In an organization as large as the county school system, there are probably plenty of expenses needing oversight, but being unable to attribute part of the data presented weakens Skillern's case.
