Sigh...I still wouldn't get to watch anything...no computer, no time...and most of the time no money...if I see a movie it's for my daughter...

"The Day the Earth Stood Still". [keanu reeves version].
I'm sick and f*ckn tired of revisionist-history quips being included in movie scripts for the gratification of whatever actor demands them. [Kathy 'bitch' Bates reference to Christopher Columbus].

Gentle Reader,
I saw Star Trek. Last night at 7:00.
The first "red" guy that goes on a mission with Kirk dies horribly. It's not like you didn't expect this so it's not a spoiler.
Respectfully,
Mr. Manners

"I've Loved You So Long."
This was a wonderful French movie similar in premise to "Rachel at the Wedding" but a lot better. The ending disappoints, but the movie is still great.

"Wendy and Lucy" came out last year, not the feel good movie of the year but it was good. Will Oldham has a cameo so there is that

We've been using the Redbox at Walgreen's lately and with longer days, we've watched a lot more movies lately. It seems the matinee prices went up not long ago and I'm not over that yet.
Gran Torino, Cadillac Records, Appaloosa, Mall Cop, Slumdog Millionaire

Happy Go Lucky It was billed as a light-hearted comedy but it absolutely was not. It was sad and the main character was annoying. If I hadn't been expecting an English Amelie I might have liked it, but it bothered me.

Watched "Taken" & "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" on DVD. Liked "Taken" a lot. "Mall Cop" had some funny moments, but I wouldn't rent it gain.

I thought I already posted this, but "Wolverine" just came on at the theater, so we went to see it there instead of waiting for the DVD.

Just saw Gran Torino. Awesome flick. Eastwood's still a badass... though now a crotchety old badass.

"La Belle Noiseuse" If you want to make yourself hate the naked female body, this is the movie for you.

I was curious to see what could ever make one hate the naked female body, and I came to the conclusion that I will never know the answer because it's a French film.
However, I found this interesting:
Runtime: 236 min | South Korea:93 min

Watched "Valkyrie" last night. A good movie. I wish they had emphasized/explained a bit more of the underground movement to get rid of Hitler. Also, a small documentary added at the end about the memorial (rather than just a sentence or two of script) would have been nice.

A movie on the "Chiller" cable channel called "The Girl Next Door". Do not see it you don't want to be haunted for days .. I thought it was going to be scary but instead it was a really disturbing film about child abuse/torture. The worst part is that it's based on a true story.

I watched Sleepers the other night. Child abuse all over the place. Not at all what I wanted to see, but the ending was good. We took the children to see the latest Iceage movie yesterday. Forty dollars for the 4 of us! It was 3 D and worth every penny. The kids were spell bound. So was I.

Just watched "Breach" again on USA. Fascinating story, apparently rendered accurately in the film. Chris Cooper is one ugly dude but a hell of an actor. Can't help wishing there were more acceptance of such a thing in the case of actresses...

"Man on Wire" I'm fascinated by people who have a dream, a narrow one in this case, and live a straight-line life in pursuit of that dream. The story of the man who walked on a wire between the Twin Towers and the team that made it possible was great. I didn't care about seeing it but I'm glad I did.
