DAMN IT ALL! I broke the right buckle on my Rollerblades today. Yeah, they were old. They're Rollerblade brand 1990 Lightnings. I love these skates. I love the way they feel, they way they skate... If possible, I would like to replace the buckle and keep 'em, rather than buy a new pair. The boot is hella durable. The skate shop I bought them at went out of business long ago. Any advice on where to go?

Sorry about your skates!
There used to be a shoe repair shop upstairs at Hamilton Place. I'm not sure if it is still there.

Vanderstoop is still on east brainerd rd. They do good work, but you've got to be careful to explain EXACTLY what you want if its not something that was common in the 50s
I don't think they or Hacky ( at hamilton place near the Sears upstairs entrance) would have problems fixing your skate.

I hadn't thought about a shoe repair store. I'll need a replacement part as the plastic broke in half.
Good thought, though. Might be the answer.

Epoxy.
Really.
The kind that comes in two parts that you have to mix together.

It won't hold on a roller blade. Does great for everything I work with on a daily basis though! By the way footy, if you have to replace them you might wanna try the Roces Biomex for women. I have the men's version and out of the 20+ pairs if skates I've had these are by FAR the most comfortable. Here's the womens:

Erm... good luck? Want me to email my rollerblading clan and ask 'em what they would do?

Well hell, looks I'll be the one with the disappointing news.
My Rollerblades were an original set of Lightnings I bought shortly after moving to Chatt (Going on 14 years ago...) I'd wager we bought ours at the same shop. And yes, a few years ago I broke 'em out and was skating around a bit when my buckle snapped. The trick is it really isn't a replaceable part. The original assembly (on mine anyway) was riveted to the boot shell. No good way to remove the old rivets though I suppose if you were reeeeeeeallly careful you good grind them off with a Dremel, but the trick is where to get a replacement part? I wrote Rollerblade at the time and never got any helpful advice. Eventually I started hunting yard sales and eventually found another set of Lightnings for $10 or $15 (much nicer than the $200 the first pair cost...)
Maybe someone knows something I don't but having been faced with precisely the same problem the best I could do was replace the damned things (and of course they no longer make anything remotely like the original Lightnings which is a shame...)

And there you have it. That's what I was thinking.
Thanks for the info.
