I went for lunch at The Curry Pot the other day. This Indian/Pakistani restaurant is located in the little plaza at 6940 Lee Highway across from Bi-Lo. I'm not very familiar with Indian food, so I went with the lunch buffet for $5.99. It was DELICIOUS!!!
There were 4 different chicken dishes, 2 styles of lentils (White & Black), 2 different vegetable concoctions (I passed on those, as I HATE vegetables, pretty much) and 2 different soups. There was also 2 styles of rice (with vegetables or steamed), warm pita bread, fried bread and some other "hushpuppy-like" things that I was told by the very helpful staff are supposed to be dipped into one of the 5 different chutneys available. The coconut chutney is to die for!
Furthermore, there were several fruits/vegetables available for salad fare. And for dessert, the traditional rice pudding was available along with milk dumplings (in a honey sauce).
The food was wonderful, the staff very nice, and there was plenty of table space available. One thing I also enjoyed a lot was the fennel seed available at the cash register for you to chew as you leave. It has a kind of licorice taste to it, and acts as a breath freshener and digestive aid. They even have sugar coated seeds for those who prefer some sweetness to their after-dinner mints.
I recommend the place. For $6.00, it has a good selection and the curry chicken was fabulous. Well worth another visit.

Even at night I can make a meal out of samosas, naan and mulligitawney from Curry Pot for under $10. The milk dumplings are gulab jamun, the Punjabi treat. Yum!

I hate to ruin this place for you LR, but it's one of my favorites.

Why should that ruin anything? The more people who dine there, the more likely it will stay open.

One of my favorite places too. LR, try their cabbage. It's excellent. Since you make some good chow-chow, I think you'd like their cabbage. Lentils are wonderful too, and this past Sunday the rice pudding was especially tasty.

Oh, I guess it was TsAVo who refused to eat where I did once, or was it that I didn't care for someplace so he decided he'd hang there. I apologize for the confusion.

Its probably one of the best lunch buffets in town. Its always so very fresh. They are certainly not a boxed or frozen variety restaurant. I really hope they continue to stay in business

I am pretty sure "methi" is fenugreek seeds. Not only a wonderful flavoring agent but very helpful in lowering blood sugar.

Curry Pot has some sort of soup there that is supposed to be very good for you. It certainly has a "Pow" from the fresh herbs and other ingredients

I am not a fan of Indian food, but with that said The Curry Pot is a great little place. The staff is super nice and it's very clean. Also they have wi-fi available.
Not being familiar with their cusine, Mr. Red (haha) and I asked for some suggesstions. It's been awhile since we were there but the food was unexpectly good (considering I had braced myself for worse seeing that I'm not a fan of Indian food). Good food, good service. If I had to eat Indian food again it's the only place I would go.

as for indian food that is well spent and not too spicy, my favorite is still Indian Mahal on Brainerd. not fancy, has a okay buffet and still safe for me to eat without burning my mouth or tastebuds out. I went to curry pot once and liked it but some stuff was a bit too much for me to try a bit of everything.

Odd, I find everything at India Mahal bland. Their saving grace is they have excellent chutneys.

For some it might seem bland on the buffet, but for those that have never had Indian food it at least entices them to experiment in the variety of it. Kinda like not shocking some that thought all Indian food was hot, hotter and flamethrower style much like the misconception of all Thai food. They leave it to you to add what you want and add the spice on your level but still leave it Kay for kids too. As for someone that can't tolerate alot of heat and detest salt additives in food, but loves flavors adding to the menu, it was perfect for me. I tend to grade on some differences than some people. I can make it burn a little if I want or leave it what it is. It is still wholesome and good to eat for the spices that they do use.

True, you can always add spice, but it never tastes quite the same when as cooked in. To me, curry should be a bit spicy, as the best I've had has been spicy, but since I've never actually been to India, I have no idea if that's the norm over there or not. Perhaps it isn't normally spicy and I just like an Americanized version.

I love the Curry Pot, it is my favorite place to eat! They have much more variety on the buffet than other Indian buffets I have tried. The cabbage is wonderful, and the chicken masala (sp?) is my favorite dish there. One time I went they had a dish called chicken 65. It was amazing, and I haven't seen it there since, but I sure wish they would bring it back.

Sitar, also off of Lee Hwy is also a very very good indian buffet during lunch, they serve from a menu for dinner and the portions are huge and very good.

I went to eat there for the first time yesterday with a friend. I usually eat at Sitar. I like curry pot better. They have more of a varity of foods. I tried the goat. It was suprisly good, though I could not get past that I was eating goat, so I had to put it aside. I had what looked like to be a vegatable soup. When I tasted it it was spicy hot & delicious & full of flavor. One of the many things that I love about Indian food is the spicy hot does not last long. Also the fruit salad was unlike anything that I have ever tried. The fruit I did not recognize, besides the pineapple. The fruit was bursting with jucciness & flavor. It was coated with some sort of pudding like mixture. It was simply delicous.
I will be back to Curry Pot.
