Has any one else eaten at the new Hillbillys on Hixson Pike? Dont know if they were having an off day when I went today but the food was awful and the service just as bad. I honestly have had better food and service in jail.

its a family owned meat and three... country cooking type place ... the food was acceptable when i went there and they definitely have some service issues but i think once they get the kinks worked out it might be a decent place to eat. the waitress told me that they had been totally swamped and had not expected how popular the place would be. i got hamburger steak, pinto beans, cole slaw, roll and ice tea (in a mason jar) for 6.50.

That's one of the few things I miss about living Outside.
Up here, that would have cost you $9.95 as a daily special, $12.95 regular price.

Chubby's BBQ on Rossville boulevard has good BBQ and is also a meat and three. I have only had the BBQ and onion rings and they were very tasty. I saw the burger plates and meat and three plates others were eating and it looked good. Any of y'all tried that place.

We ate lunch at Hillbilly's today, made sure to get there shortly after opening at 11:00. Glad we did as the place was jammed when we left, with more folks pulling in.
The Sunday menu is pretty abbreviated, Chicken and dumplings, Chicken and dressing and Fried chicken, along with a few burgers. I had the chicken and dumplings with green beans and turnip greens for my sides. Everything was very good. My wife had the fried chicken, which was a big chunk of boneless chicken breast, the breading was greasless a good job of frying. She had the turnip greens and pinto beans, I had a taste of the pintos and they were prepared excellently.
It's not a gourmet dinner destination, but it is good, solid, well prepared comfort food.

He wasn't around when Bea's first opened. They've been in business longer than he (and I) have been alive.

Just got back. Stuffed to the gills. Food was pretty dang good and Donna got fresh cooked chicken livers, pinto beans and mac & cheese. I got the small cheeseburger & onion rings. (glad I did, noway I could have finished off the large) I plan on a return visit and not order so much food. Got for under a 20 including tip.
I give it 5 barks.

Visited May 8th, order Patty Melt, it was the worst one I have ever eaten. Will not visit again..............
Waitress where on their cellphones, drinking (tea) and only worry about their tips.

Were they as good as Nikki's bacon-wrapped, deep fried chicken livers?

I see it did last more than 6 months! I eat there at least twice a month. The chef salad can feed 2. Just good old country food like buttermilk pie. Most food is rich, no dieting here, and large servings. (Of course this Granny cooks better than most, been at it for 50 years. So the 'As good as Granny's' doesn't include me!) I heard because of being crowded and parking lot full they are moving down the road a bit to take over Huddle House location. I would say that means more than a few find it good.

They moved, as noted above. Not sure the new one is opened yet, supposed to be some big parking lot shindig with not one but two Elvis impersonators when the new one opens up.

We've picked up dinner at the new location. The food's good, the servers and owner are nice. No complaints. The owner even helped me carry a drink out to my car. I think I may even try the dessert there one day.

Plus their new building is much newer than the previous one...and they own it rather than renting it.

Would not reccomend. Ate there last night waited 30 minutes for my appetizer over an hour for my food then they didn't even bring the whole order. After speaking with the poorly dressed manager all he could say was that my grilled chicken took up to 15 mins too cook. WORST SERVICE EVER!! Food was decent though. Atleast what was stil hot after an hour
