with all of the trash throwing with the recall over the mayor, he mentioned a name in his letter that i had long forgotten about but remember well.
the local street "preacher" Dan Martino. i only remember vague things about him. to you veteran LEOs, what the hell was his malfunction?
i remember hearing about him calling the SWAT team over the coke cans that had the money that popped up when you opened them. that was when........early 80's?
anyways i know he was a nut job. i just dont remember exactly why his screws were loose. i also didnt know he had died until i read that in his (the mayor's) letter.
discuss.

He once walked into a bar downtown to preach against the evils of drinking. The evils drinking there put him in the hospital for a few days.

Ah, good ol' "Green Teeth". Mr "God is a Republican" hisself. I've had many a discussion with him.
I went to see Old Calcutta when it came to town. Dan came to protest it. It was so funny that he didn't jump up and make a ruckus until the last scene before intermission, despite the fact that the first scene culminated with full frontal nudity of the whole cast.
Isn't he in Heaven now?

He used to stand on street corners holding huge photos of aborted fetus'. I got stuck beside him once while I was running. I was so embarrassed!

I was always amazed at my luck for never actually meeting the man. But everyone in town knew that fruit cake.

He used to sing in the First Pres choir. Apparently a local, well to do, conservative family sort of "sponsored" him.

He was a poor troubled soul who's raising wouldn't allow him to accept who he was. I think this drove him to become a part of the monster that created him.

Sounds more like a marijuana bar.
Wrong again you hopeless dumba**. If it was a marijuana bar the patrons would have merely laughed their a**s off. You really don't know anything about the effects of marijuana on people other than what you learned watching "Reefer Madness" do you?
It really boggles my mind that an intelligent person such as yourself maintains this ignorant position regarding marijuana. I have smoked weed since 1968, at times very heavily, and have not yet beaten up one street preacher. Actually the only times I have engaged in violence in my life I had been drinking alcohol, not smoking dope.

The guy who ran the Chattanooga Fax years ago ran a great obit article on Dan. He was apparently bi-polar which was probably the cause of a lot of his stuff. According to that write up, he was gay and haunted by it.

I, too, had heard that this carbuncle on the ass of Chattanooga was supported by a "local, large church". Obviously, a Bible-believing group that had never read the sixth chapter of Matthew. Not judgin' just sayin'

Doesn't surprise me he was having problems with being gay, or that he was Bi-Polar.....I think today he might even have been given some sort of chance as we see more and more like him out on the streets and it's considered almost - normal.
