Ordered 3 waters and 1 sweet tea, server brought 3 waters and 1 coke, that was the best part of the meal, from there it went downhill. My son's 30'th Birthday asked him if he wanted to go to Ruby Tuesdays or Applebees, he picked Applebees which was fine for us, we have always gotten good service there and the food is always good. This time is was awful, after screwing up the simplest drink order ever, our waitress took our order and brought out the appetizer my son and his wife ordered, later came my wife and my entrees, the fajitas my wife ordered were not sizzling, they were covered in a sweetly sickening bbq sauce and the plate was mostly covered in reserved rice that was cold, my Bourbon St. Steak and shrimp looked palatable except for the big turd looking thing mixed in with the potato wedges that the manager later identified as "something that had been left in the fryer for a long time", after staring blankly at out food for a few minutes our appetizer came, chicken quesadillas, sent em back, already got our food, asked when our son and his wife's entrees would be ready, so they brought out his riblet platter, fries already salted and peppered as though they had been on someone else's platter, the riblets were cold, my daughter in laws chicken dinner came out a few minutes later and was edible but by then we couldn't eat this stuff and asked our waitress to speak to a manager. 5 minutes later we decided the manager wasn't coming to us so my wife got up to go to him, and he met us half way told us he was sorry and we was going to have to recook our food, so we got up and left, my wife left her purse under the table and had to go back in to retrieve it, the bus lady was cleaning the table and asked why we left all of our food on the table, my wife explained that it wasn't good and the bus lady said that something did smell spoiled to her. But never mind, we did end up at Ruby Tuesday's and we had appetizers, desserts, and drinks, and my son had a happy birthday after all. In 51 years I have never left a restaurant with out paying and so disgusted

You might consider writing the regional office. What you experienced is enough to close the place. Or get the mahnager canned.

This is actually what I wrote on their website through their "contact us" portal, however, it would send back an error message when I would click send, so I sorta just saved it here until I figure out how to get it to them.

Applebee's has adopted a "strong central management" style, which means ALL decisions are made at Corporate, and the GM's and even RM's are basically expendable if they don't consistently make numbers. It's been a disaster for a group who's still looking for an identity and has been through several, while dropping popular menu items such as their excellent "Brutus burger". Trying to substitute items or change the way food is prepared is strictly VERBOTEN, which is why managers are helpless when it comes to situations like yours.

It's Applebee's for Christ sake what did you expect. Get off the wallet and go to a real restaurant.

"Strong Central Management" = Last Resort: Don't trust your People; what's good for New York is good for Athens; maximize cash flow/profit and sell.
O'Charley's, another average-quality chain, is closing more stores; looks like Applebees won't be far behind.

He has no refined taste, hell he goes to Las Margaritas and drinks overpriced watery Margaritas and roach egg burritos with Lalo.

No I have taste. I choose to raise my kids in a less crime ridden city. I choose to have my kids educated at one of The State of Tennessee better public schools. I choose to keep my kids away from gang bangers. I choose to raise my kids in a city that doesn't have 100+ shooting. Home Invasions. I sneak into Chattanooga for good resturants. I come quietly doors locked on-star on the ready. I like 212 Market, Food Works etc..Cleveland just has the run of the mill candy cutter chains Applebee's OCharleys, Outback,Chilli's, Logans (which I like) Soon to be getting Aubrey's and some chain's Red Lobster and Olive Garden.
We have 2 upscale types food joints Bald Headed Bistro Allan Jones pit wouldn't give his ass a dime. Cafe Roma great Resturant.

You are a bundle of contradictions Mr. Santos. >I sneak into Chattanooga for good resturants. I come quietly doors locked on-star on the ready. You should try Hennon's. As good as in resturant in a larger city. For its size Chattavegas has plenty of fine resturants. To me Cleveland is like a low land Signal Mountain. I have no use for either place.

We have no use for you either. Do all the people with unwarranted senses of self-importance flock to Cleveland and Signal Mountain? Or in your case, was it developed after you moved there?

People move to Cleveland to raise their kids in a safe enviroment with excellent schools and to be close to Cherokee National Forest and the white water rafting and outdoors we enjoy.
Not to mention just the good people and quality of life.

I had asked for us to take him to The Linderhof Restaurant in Knoxville and he had requested a trip to Friday's, no one was up for a road trip that night so Applebee's and Ruby Tuesdays was our next choices. Athens has several other nice restaurants, "The Jackson Street Market" (Jenkins), "The Open Door", (located in the former house of ill repute (The Robert E. Lee)), and a new Mexican Restaurant downtown "La Chiquitas", that offers the most authentic menu that I know of, beef tongue with green sauce, yum yum.

How much you want to wager? Well hell I can see Aubrey's opening in the Olivers location before too long, but if you think Red Lobster will open a new location (I cannot remember a new Red Lobster in the past 20 years anywhere) or an Olive Garden opening in the next six months so if either a Red Lobster or an Olive Garden are open as of 06/17/2010, I'll buy a dinner for you and and your significant other there. Now put your money where your mouth is and what will you give me if either one doesn't open?
