Have any of you guys been to San Juan? We're going in June, and would really appreciate any info of things to do, and stuff to stay away from. I wish I were more of a history buff because there is alot of history there. So far, all I want to do is hang out on the beach and visit a rain forest. Someone enlighten me, please!

If there is an extra heavy large suitcase you don't remember packing ... think nothing of it. Just throw it in with the rest but open it first if you don't mind ;D

Poke air holes in the suitcase BEFORE you pack...

My wife is from Ponce. But, since she hasn't been back there since she was about three, I don't think she'd be much help.

I visited Puerto Rico over 24 years ago, so I don't know how much help anything I tell would still apply today. But I can give it a try.
But, go to St. Thomas on the Virgin Islands. Everything use to be a lot cheaper there then on the Island or here. 5 of us took a trip to St. Thomas and all of us brought back as much liquor as we were legally allowed. I remember a 5th of Black Label Jack Daniels cost me about 3-4 dollars, A bottle of Chevis (sp) was about 5-6. It wall was duty free and you have a $ amount you can bring back without paying any duty on it. Also Rum is very cheap in Puerto Rico 2-3 a Bottle. I sure the prices are higher today then back then, but they still should be cheaper then stateside. I brought home 10 bottles total of liquor.
As far as what to do on Puerto Rico, There are casinos in San Juan, so if you like to gamble, give that a try. Also in San Juan, there is a huge old fort you can tour.
You can also try snorkeling.
Driving back then was a real trip. Everyone has those wide angle rear view mirrors. Be very careful driving.
Most of the trip was spent with family, so I didn't so a lot.
Hope some of this helps.

Thanks everybody -
tuffmustang, we're flying in to San Juan and are pretty much locked in on that island. St. Thomas would be nice though.
I'm going with family too. There are 9 of us going (well, 10 when I let DragonLady out of the suitcase).
I may do the snorkeling thing. I was going to make a couple of dives, but after checking their dive shops and finding out it's cold water diving, I quickly decided against that!

San Juan is where the fort and the casinos are. ( as I remember).
I would check on the snorkling when you get there. I was there in December and the water temp. was great.
The rum is still cheap on the mail island.

I found the city to be dirty. I had fun, but stayed pretty isolated in the resort with the exception of some shopping (haggling)
