The Chattanooga Track Club announced that registration for the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Half Marathon has topped 1,200 entries. Registration for the half marathon, which has exceeded 700 runners, has closed. The Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon, scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 a.m., has been run through the nation’s oldest military park for nearly 30 years. This year’s event features several changes and new features. This is the first year a half marathon will be run in conjunction with the marathon. In past years the marathon was accompanied by a 10-mile race (2001–2007) and a 5k race (1990–1991). The event also features a new start/finish location at the Sixth Cavalry Museum on Barnhardt Circle in historic Fort Oglethorpe. The move to the new start/finish location was made possible through a partnership with the Fort Oglethorpe Tourism Committee. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_138252.asp

It WAS record participation. Some great athletes on a beautiful course. I didn't run it, but I did go hit some of it from the bike to cheer on the athletes.

I accidentally ran into this marathon on my bike this last weekend. I asked one of the cops working the event how long they'd been running, and whether it was a 5K or what. Guy had no clue, and seemed embarassed.
Marathons would be more fun if they allowed pogo sticks.
