Queen of comfort cuisine Paula Deen confirmed to Al Roker Tuesday that she has type-2 diabetes. In her first broadcast interview discussing the disease, Deen said she intentionally kept the diagnosis secret after discovering she had it during a routine physical three years ago. “I came home, I told my children, I told my husband, I said, ‘I’m gonna keep this close to my chest for the time being’ because I had to figure out things in my own head,” she told Roker on TODAY. Rumors that the 64-year-old Southern cook suffers from the disease have been persistent. The National Enquirer first reported the diagnosis in April 2010. Deen neither confirmed nor denied the reports – until now. “I’m here today to let the world know that it is not a death sentence,” said the Food Network star, who is now being paid as a spokesperson for Novo Nordisk, the pharmaceutical company that supplies her diabetes medication. Coinciding with her announcement, Deen and her family are appearing in a new ad campaign for the company this month. ignored, yes. All the rules change but if you adhere to them everything will remain close to the same (OK no more pecan pie...)

My favorite Paula recipe:
* One stick of butter * Fry in lard * Roll in powdered sugar * Enjoy! * Shoot up your insulin.

I've never heard of anything she did that didn't make me want to gag.

She's a food whore. Nothing she has done has any semblance to good, much less fine, dining. Just ear lard and sugar, Hon.

I did make a dressing recipe of her's once. No lard, no sugar. Butter, eggs, and heavy cream with sausage and the usual seasonings. it cooked up to be similar to a bread pudding kind of thing. Fun to do once.

Paula tried to make it fancy, and IMO messed most of it up. I do want to try one of her real restaurants, though. The casino buffet's with her name on them aren't all that hot.

I ate at the one in Savannah with some friends. It was about like Cracker Barrel. There is nothing wrong with cooking with real butter and lard as long as you don't make those dishes the center of every meal.

I refused to eat there in Savannah when I was there recently. I, too, find everything she cooks disgusting. I've never had a desire to eat anything because of all the nasty stuff that she cooks with. The news of her illness didn't surprise me, but the public's reaction to it did.

Greasy meat and threeish, with no indication of taste, technique or thought. I wish her no ill, but she deserves the condemnation.

Wow, you'd probably find just about everything I know how to cook disgusting too. I learned from my grandmother, and while Paula may be a lot fancier, the basics are the same.
