I've been a long-time supporter of the Chattanooga Zoo. We have a family membership, attend as many of the fundraisers as we can, and help spread the word about what a treasure we have right in the heart of the city.
The only problem is that I can't get over there nearly as often as I like (I do keep rather busy). But yesterday, we were able to spend a couple hours visiting old friends and making new acquaintances.
Below are some pics I snapped (on my smartphone, of all things).
Goliath the chimpanzee. He was sitting right in front of one of the big windows, and was being quite sociable. The chimpanzees are really amazing animals.
This is a sand cat, and one of the new residents of the zoo. About the same size as a domestic house cat in their body, but their heads are more like Garfield the cat (they're huge).
The jaguar brothers decide to have a little wrestling match for our entertainment. The four year old siblings are pretty much the living definition of the word "majestic."
This little fluffy guy is a desert fox, and I've been watching him grow up since he was a baby and living the the zoo director's office. He seems very content in his new habitat.
This collared lizard was fascinated with my phone. He really acted like he wanted to come right through the glass and be my friend.
The larger of the jaguars decided to pose like the supermodel he is.
And remember the Animal Planet show "Meercat Manor" from a few years back? Yep, this little guys have a new home at the zoo, as well. And while I didn't take photos of their other activity, I have a feeling there may be little meercats coming soon. Just saying...
