Tim Carroll: Why Bobby Dodd Should Be Retained

I have been in law enforcement for almost 35 years and consider Chief Bobby Dodd an exceptional leader. I have known Chief Dodd over 20 years and worked under his command when he was the captain and assistant chief over investigative services. After his appointment to Chief of Police in 2010 I was honored that he had the confidence in me to appoint me assistant chief of investigative services, where I served until my retirement in 2012. I know how hard he worked because I saw him leaving most every night several hours past his normal work hours.
Chief Dodd has done an outstanding job as the Chief of Police. He has dedicated his full attention to reducing overall crime and doubled the staffing of the crime suppression unit to address not only gang crime but any crime issue whether it was residential burglaries or theft from vehicles.
We met every week with the command staff and looked over the previous week’s crime reports to see if there were any spikes in crime. With computer crime analysis, manpower and resources could immediately be directed to the area where the spike in crime occurred.
Chief Dodd since his appointment has remained under budget for the operation of the police department. He has strived to recruit the best men and women to be police officers with diversity a priority.

Bobby Dodd Has Done A Great Job As Chattanooga Police Chief
As a resident living in East Lake - a very high crime area in Chattanooga - there are still issues in East Lake, but they have improved since Chief Dodd has been in charge of the Police Department.
No one can get everything perfect, but Chief Dodd gives a hands-on look at every situation regardless of how large or small. He has been Chattanooga's best chief in years, so stand behind him, Mayor Berke, and move East Lake and Chattanooga forward.
Chattanooga will be very grateful to you, Mayor.
