Went to the bone dr today. His hands are a mess of gristle and inconnected bones. No use of either. They suspect the staph is back. Surgery this week, and it will be complicated. Then back to Life Care for awhile. He is in a world of pain. The x rays showed nothing that looked like hands. We're not surprised. His hands were so swollen and disfigured and hot. Thoughts, please. It's a hell of a month, esp for the Martins.

They are admitting Felix today to hook the antibiotics up. Surgery planned for Thursday. It's the joint infection he had last year.

Surgery moved to tomorrow. Should there a few weels. It's a complicated surgery that will last for hours. They gave him dilaudid, and he was feeling better in 15 minutes. The lab people came in and I got out of the way. He couldn't hold his pills, cups, bananas, or get dressed. I think I hurt him when I tried to help him sit up. I hope this will be an answer. He still has been in the wheelchair for over a year. Thanks you all, it helped to talk! Babs

Dilaudid is wonderful for pain, but it does mess with the old motor skills and eye/hand coordination. I'm sure we all hope the surgery goes well and helps greatly.

He was in surgery for six and a half hours. Did both hands. His oldest son and I saw him tonight. He's in ICU, but I think that's pretty standard right after surgery. He spoke of Lewis Carroll and photography....sort of.

They found infection in most of his joints with disinagrated bones in the wrists. He's back where he was last year. They are taking him out of ICU today to the 4th floor at Parkridge. Talked to his dr. this morning. Took fluid from his knees and sternum. No plates in his hands and he will have limited mobility in his wrists and fingers.
