OK so the Karma family unit rounded up the troops on Friday after work and headed out to Foodworks. It was really accidental, but nonetheless, I was happy to have a chance to try it out.
First the location. I am a complete sucker for old buildings adapted to new purposes. The exposed brick walls give the restaurant a substantive feel, and the dining areas are very open which I appreciate as a people watcher. I give the atmosphere an A plus.
For dinner we shared asian dumpings. I love these things. These dumplings were steamed and filled with cashews and chicken and seemed a bit lighter than the standard dumpling you get at a chinese restaurants. It comes with four dumplings. I have no complaints but I could have eaten four more. Our server indicated this was her favorite app on the menu.
My wife had a shrimp and grits entree and I had seared Tuna. Her meal was absolutely fabulous. The shrimp were plump and cooked perfectly. The cream scampi sauce reminded me quite a bit of a bisque. The grit cake was served in the middle and covered with sauce like polenta. I really like this dish.
I had the seared Tuna. This came with fried green tomatoes and spanish slaw. The tuna was good, but it was missing something. Not sure what. It was a good cut of meat and it was cooked as ordered. I really enjoyed the sides that came with it better. The spanish slaw was awesome. It was an al dente serving of cabbage with a hot pepper sauce. The fried green tomatoes were good too.
So on the food I give them a B plus.
Our server was good and knowledgeable about the menu and always seemed to be on queue without being on top of us so I give our server an A.
So I recommend foodworks. Definitely try the shrimp and grits.
