We enjoyed a Friday night visit to the Countryside Kreme House (formerly the Kreme House) at 9220 Lee Highway in Ooltewah. The restaurant has now been taken over by Ponder Geren, owner of the Countryside Cafe on Mahan Gap Road. Countryside Kreme House offers a full menu in addition to a list of daily specials (which are always good). I would describe this as the food Southern people love. The regular menu has Burgers & Sandwiches priced from $2.59 for an Ultimate Grilled Cheese to $6.19 for a 16-ounce Double Hamburger. You can also order a platter which includes French Fries. Salads are priced from $2.59 for a House Salad to $7.29 for a Crispy (or Grilled) Chicken Salad. Another item found on the menu is a bowl of pinto beans with corn muffins and onion for $3.49, as well as vegetable soup ($3.19). The plate lunches that appear on the menu daily are served with your choice of three vegetables and either rolls or corn muffins, include Grilled Pork Chops ($7.29), Fried Chicken Livers ($6.99), Hamburger Steak and Onions (8-ounce, $7.59) and Jumbo Shrimp ($7.99 ½ dozen; $12.99 1 dozen). www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_104569.asp
