Okay, another fast-food adventure from Rune. My son and I went out to Krystal. This is because I got an internet coupon for a free milkshake, we were both craving ice cream and neither of us had a dime to our name. We arrived at Krystal; the young lady behind the counter greeted us; I held up my coupons and said "Hi...we've got coupons for free milkshakes. One chocolate and one strawberry, please." The young lady got to work, diligently punching those buttons. Finally, she looked up with a big smile and said "That'll be $6.10, please!" I showed her the coupons again. This time, she took them and spent a lengthy time reading them, then offered me a look of utter incomprehension. She called over a colleague. They both read the coupons. Then they decided to call over a manager. A lot of swiping and keying ensued. The order was rung up again, and the manager said "Last thing you do is staple those coupons to the receipt." As soon as the manager walked away, the cashier cheerfully attempted to hand me back my coupons. I smiled and said "I think the manager wants you to staple those to the receipt." Another team effort: She held the coupons and the receipt, while a second colleage did the stapling. They then examined the finished result like two kindergartners doing Arts & Crafts. The two employees (there were 7 all together, not counting 2 managers, and only 2 customers - us) commenced making the milkshakes, while one of the managers read from the cashier's manual in hopes that they'd remember the procedure next time. Two milkshakes for two customers required one employee per shake to bring them back to the counter. Then the first employee looked at the coupons again and said "Really, these are FREE? Where'd you get them?" I told her the computer, and she looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. Glad we weren't in a hurry; it took nearly 15 minutes. Oh, and guess what? Remember "one chocolate, and one strawberry?" One of us was given vanilla instead.

See, there are plenty of people to make fun of. No shortage in this town.

At least it wasn't QUITE that screwed up when I presented my "Free Movie" passes on Sunday. They charged me $1 per ticket. Considering the fact that I chose to ignore the "Coupons good Monday - Thursday Only" part - I paid the $4 and took the family to a very cheap, if not free, showing of Fantastic Four.

Rune, I'm sure by the time you actually got to indulge in your milkshakes from hell, they were probably a scoop shy of being most excellent, because in all honesty, those Krystal shakes are VERY good, especially if you go to a Krystal location that actually asks how thick you would like them.
Was it the Cherokee Blvd. location? I've been loving that one for years until the last couple of months; it seems like the pre-requisite to work at that one is a recent frontal lobotomy. I've never seen anything like it.
If you go to the Lee Highway location in front of Sam's Club though, a totally different experience will await you. It is supposedly the "training location" where everyone is on their best behavior because they haven't been placed yet. Talk about superior service with a smile to boot, that would be the place to go.
Just an FYI -- and I'm glad you finally got the shakes. Better luck next time!

They are now closed for remodeling. Maybe the attitude will improve.

It was the big new one on Brainerd. In fairness, the shakes were pretty damn good and the plastic cups are recyclable.

I shared this a couple months ago ... My boyfriend, a native of Delaware, and I came down to Chattanooga for our first visit together at Valentine's Day ... My first order of business after taking him on a quick tour of Hixson was to stop at the Krystal.
He likes White Castle (ick).
So we ordered the "mix and match" combo, which I think is #2. And we ordered them JUST ALIKE.
Oh, it came out mixed and matched, but nothing like what we ordered. It took the girl about 10 minutes to ring the order and longer for the food to be delivered to our table. And, ten minutes is more than enough time for good Krystal to turn to crappy Krystal.
Much more successful visit in April. We made sure we had a simpler order that time, though.

See? ;D I am sure it is because the ones on Lee Hwy make $16.00 hourly and the ones on cherokee (ghetto) make $6 -$7 hourly. that would make explain it of course.

caterer remarked regarding the Lee Hwy. Krystal employees: ...the ones on Lee Hwy make $16.00 hourly... *raised eyebrow* Do they also fold shirts for that?

I think the Krystal on Lee Hwy is a training location for people looking to get into management. I work blocks away and have seen some of the same counter people and "cooks" there for years. Oh yeah, if they make $16.00 per hour I'm applying tomorrow. Although on paper I make more than that if I only work a 40 hour week, I haven't worked as little as 40 hours in a week for years. Being salaried can SUCK.

Why is there not a Krystal in downtown Chattanooga anymore? (I don't consider the 3400 block of Broad Street to be "downtown.")

I know...my husband (a card-carrying member of the Krystal Lover's Club) was crushed when he learned the Krystal building doesn't have a restaurant. What were they thinking?

But there is a Krystal in the builing dowtown. Basement level, go in back door.
Your husband needs to tell them he is their test subject for the day, as it is their R & D kitchen. But it is modeled after a krystal restaurant for timing/execution purposes.

Speaking of Krystals. Are they not open 24 hours anymore? I have stopped by the one on Brainerd and the one in Ooltewah after work (close to midnight) and both of them closed.

I thought the drive-thru was open 24/7, but I could be thinking of Sonic.

The one on Hwy 58 closes the dining room at 11pm. Sucks.

Worm that is funny, cause the last night of Riverbend, I actually went inside to the dining room to order and it was well past 11, as a matter of fact if memory serves me correctly it was 12:38 when I was in there getting food.....

Did they just want to cut the staff or were there a lot of robberies? Why would Krystal do that to us? I like Sonic better anyway and on Brainerd the drive-thru is open 24 hrs. Brainerd Road I have noticed (besides the Sonic) has sucky svc in the drive thru. I refuse to go to Wendy's anymore because the girl in the drive thru says "What do you want?" instead of "Welcome to Wendy's how may I help you?" or even "Hi, How may I help you?" I complained to the manager at Arby's because a similar girl did that there too....maybe it was the same one and she just changed locations. McDonalds' svc is okay same with Blimpies and Subway..but, not much else. Or at least not the days I was there.

Same reason there is a cop 24/7 in the Bi-Lo and the gas stations only have one unlocked door at night.
