Wayne and I have received several E-mails recommending Herman’s. The restaurant used to have a small location on Tunnel Boulevard, but moved to a nice building (that once housed a Captain D’s) at 3821 Brainerd Road. After several attempts, we finally made it to Herman’s for dinner on a recent Saturday afternoon. We have to agree with the E-mails, Herman’s is definitely worth a visit. The menu describes the restaurant as “Southern Cooking At its Finest”. It was difficult to decide on what we wanted. The menu offers Oven Roasted Chicken with rice ($8.99), Liver & Onions with rice ($8.99), Spaghetti with meat sauce ($7.99), Fried Pork Chops ($8.99), as well as many other items. I noticed all the chicken, other than the Oven Roasted, Lemon Pepper, and Bar-B-Q, is wings. In addition to the Southern Classic Platters and Specialty Platters, Herman’s also has sandwiches, wraps, and Grand Salads. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_110673.asp

I'll concur on this one. Good food. Next time I go, I'm getting Ham Hocks. Saw several plates pass by, and my mouth was watering.

I went on Saturday Aug 4, 2007 and ordered the Liver and Onions. My God when I got them home they were not the same breaded livers I remember. The servers at Herman's were very friendly, But the liver was less then desired......

I live just up the street from their new location (you can almost see my house from the parking lot), and everytime I drive by the parking lot of nearly packed.

Jafomac - Liver and onions is NOT fried chicken livers - which must have been what you were expecting.

We went to Herman's for lunch the other day, and it was, well... the nicest thing I can say is that food was decent. That fact that it took over a half-hour to get our food however, was the real problem. Service was incredibly slow, and our server was rarely seen the entire time. We even had to wait to get our check.

I went with a friend yesterday and we got our food in 15 minutes - catfish again. The mac and cheese was very good. My friend got a vegetable plate - loved the fried corn. Sorry you had such dismal service. I've been 3 times and had good service each time.

In todays paper Ann Braly said it took 50 minutes for her party to be served. I would have left by then.

I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated.

We went last week...very mixed reviews. I loved the decor. The buffalo ranch chicken sandwich was excellent, and a generous portion. Fries on the side -- big ones, but not terribly crisp or flavorful. However, my H didn't care for the meatloaf. It, as well as the mashed & gravy were on the cold side; the sweet tea was the kind that could make your teeth fall out (again, his wording). We shared some fried green tomatoes; neither of us was impressed. Service friendly but somewhat slow. I would go back, but it's likely to be solo.

My friend thinks the potatoes are instant, although she asked and they said they were real. She raved about the sweet tea (I only had water) so I don't know. The peach cobbler was good, although very sweet. She loved the chocolate cake, said it was extra moist.

I think TnBear has my review confused with the free-press. After your comment about 50 minutes I checked out her review. She said "service was excellent". If you read my review on The Melon Patch which came out on Friday as well, I said we waited 50 minutes.

Service was slow when we went as well. I think they hired every niece and cousin they could find, and some obviously know nothing about being a wait person. I found myself saying "bless her heart" a lot, and we all know what that means in the south...

From what we were told, you're right Worm, a lot of them are related. I was there with a friend yesterday and we had liver and onions. Not enough onions to notice, but the liver was extremely tender.

I tried Herman's yesterday, yes it was a very nice clean place to have lunch or dinner. The folks that worked there were very nice. Prices where a little on the high side, but you did get alot of food! ($8.99 for lunch plus add on a drink and tip and my lunch was around $13.00). Didn't have to wait at all on our food that day.....
