For some reason, I thought it was "Butch Lindsey's Chug-A-Lug". Was there some other place called Chug-A-Lug?

There used to be this little hole-in-the-wall place on Market Street called the Chili King. It was very small and only had a couple of bar stools at a counter along the right side. They had really good chili dogs!
I also used to have lunch occasionally at the Triangle Grill before it was the Pickle Barrel when I worked at a radio station on the 10th floor of the Hotel Patten.

Wasn't Chili King right beside Mom's?
Anyone remember Bush's Spaghetti House?
Hotel Patten. Was by there today! The Lamplighter Lounge. Is the Hotel Patten (Patten Towers) on the National Register of Historic Places?

There was a Spaghetti House on Lee Highway - went there once. Is that the one you are talking about? It was in the old Bud's location.

I didn't think Chili King was that far down - I was thinking it was more across from the Triangle - but that was a long time ago. I didn't remember walking that far down to pick up our orders.

Don't remember that one, just the one on Lee Highway.
There used to be a place across from the old post office (the Joel W. Solomon building) that was called Stand 'n Snack. They had good sandwiches. Everything was counter and you stood - no seats.

The Bush Shaghetti House was across from the Choo Choo. Part of the movie about the one-armed baseball pitcher was filmed there. I do believe the Chili King occupied the now-vacant area beside Mom's.

augie47 said: . . . I do remember the Glass House. but can not recall the location... Originally (long before my time) it was downtown somewhere. Its last location was on South Broad Street, next door to the Double Cola plant. WDEF is there now, and the low building with curved ends in front of the main building was the restaurant.

The Loft had the best Prime Rib I have ever eaten. Michaels on Brainerd had incredible food considering it was mostly a bar. tink What was the name of the black owned place by the Choo Choo with the Hot Fish? My Grandma took me there and it was crazy good. Was it Choo Choo Hot Fish? Dah!

Choo Choo Hot Fish used to be the best place to grab a bite back when I worked downtown...much has improved in the way of eating establishments since then.

I loved Choo Choo Hot Fish. Cannot say the same about The Loft, certainly not the last few years they were open anyway. I had two meals there that set benchmarks for bad food and worse service.

I also miss La Dolce Vita. It was very good and I was surprised that it didn't get more business. I think the last time I went there my boyfriend and I were 2 of only 3 customers in there. Sad.

The last time we went there the food was terrible. The linguini was so greasy I couldn't eat it and we always felt the employees acted like they didn't care if you were there or not.

Michael's on Brainerd Rd. is now a pile of brick. I drove by today. The red canopy is out in the front of the lot, all bent up. The lot looks so small, now that the building is gone.

Anyone remember a little Italian place called "Momma Theresa's"? It was in the shopping center on Brainerd Rd., along with Service Merchandise & a few other <now closed> businesses. I remmeber Momma's, don't remmeber eating there, I do have some idea of what happen to the family thru a ex of mine. They got advised that it would better best for them if they went be to the "old country" before they got shut down...

Speaking of old businesses, something must be going on at the old Monster Flea Market on corner of Brainerd Rd & Lee Hwy. All the garage doors were open and trucks were backed in. Is it turning into a new business? Ankhar's on Lee Hwy. has signs posted "used equipment for sale". The owners are there every afternoon, trucks hauling off tables etc.

Seems like that Duff's on Lee Highway was also something else - same style, different name.
