Reported by, Matt Johnson Spring has sprung in the Tennessee Valley and that means lots of people are heading outdoors. The City of Chattanooga is beefing up security this season, hoping to cut crime at area parks. Coolidge Park closes around for the night around 11:00, that's usually when officers wrap up patrols. With this season, comes an added sense of security for park-goers. In the past, crime has been an unfortunate reality at the park, but a new some crucial changes could go a long way in keeping Coolidge Crime-free. Signs of the season bring beauty to Chattanooga's Coolidge Park. "This time of year, it's starting to get warm, everybody likes to come out, get around, throw balls around, get with their kids and do different things and coming to the park, it's a way of life," said park-goer and parent, Gerald Riggs.

On a somewhat related note...
Why is it that the River Walk has all those lights along the path when it closes at sunset, and why are they on all night? Why waste all that money? I assume it closes at sunset because they are afraid people will get mugged and they don't want to patrol it.

What it is, is they have all those flourescent lights, not the Anti-Al Gore incandescents, so it's ok, and somehow better for us.
And, there are no cops.

I'd imagine it's to stop crime. You're a lot less likely to commit a crime if others can see ya... And a big dark place would be a good place to perform evil and illegal acts...

Never stopped me; actually, the more witnesses the better.
But I was 'less healthy' then, too. Hmm. Ah, well.
Strippers have to eat, too.

What crime? You aren't allowed to be there after sunset.

That's the whole point... If you're somewhere you're not allowed to be, it's a lot easier to get caught w/ lights on than w/ them off ~J What crime? You aren't allowed to be there after sunset.
