Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigators are currently working a traffic fatality at the intersection of Barton Ave and Dugdale St . in north Chattanooga . Upon arrival investigators talked with witnesses who stated a yellow Ford Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Barton Ave, the vehicle went out of control around a curve, crossed the double yellow line and struck a Toyota four runner traveling north on Barton Ave.
The driver of the Ford Mustang was pronounced dead on the scene, the passenger in the Mustang was transported to Erlanger hospital with what appears to be non life threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota four runner were taken to Erlanger Hospital and also being treated for non life threatening injuries. Investigators stated the driver of the Toyota had just received his driver’s license three hours prior to this accident.
The names are not being released at this time, pending notification of family.
The investigation is continuing and as other details come in they will be released.
This is the city’s 7th traffic fatality of the year.

Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigators have identified the victim of today’s fatality at 800 Barton Ave.
Harold Timmis, 41 of 6225 Dayton Blvd. was driving a 1999 Ford Mustang south on Barton Ave and was traveling to fast to negotiate the curve at Dugdale St. Timmis lost control of the vehicle, crossed over into the north bound lane traffic and struck a 1998 Toyota 4 Runner driven by Andrew Chestnut of Scenic Hwy. a passenger in the Ford Mustang, Shawn Gibson was transported to Erlanger with minor injuries. Brindley Mitchell was a passenger in the 4 runner was transported to Erlanger Hospital for minor injuries.
Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the accident.
This is the 7th traffic fatality of the year.

Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigators have arrested a 16 year old Chattanooga youth in connection with the fatal traffic accident involving Harold Timmis on March 23rd, at 800 Barton Ave. The day of the accident, witnesses stated they observed the yellow Ford Mustang driven by Timmis and a blue Ford Probe drag racing, the two vehicles’ rounded a curve and the Mustang lost control and crashed into an on coming Toyota 4 Runner driven by Andrew Chestnut of Chattanooga . The Ford Probe continued traveling south on Barton Ave.
During the investigation, traffic investigators utilized the new Laser Craft camera speed system to obtain evidence that was needed to lead to this arrest. These are speed detection cameras in static positions, some of which are placed at the S curves in the 3000 block of Hixson Pike. The investigators used the system to identify the Ford Probe and the Ford Mustang drag racing thru the S curves shortly before the crash.
With the cooperation of his parents, the juvenile driver of the Ford Probe has turned himself into the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center where he has been charged with Vehicular Homicide and other related charges.
