Over the course of the that downtown music festival festival, what's your prediction for the number of gang-related incidents (violent & non-violent) that are bound to occur?
What's a good benchmark to start with -- 50? 100? More?
I'm picking 100 & betting on the "over" side.
Things like taunting & intimidation (gang signing), large groups gathered wearing colors or some gang ID's, break-ins, and all types of small time to big deal violent acts -- it's going to happen, isn't it?
The question is, given the County Mayor's recent prevarications regarding the Riverwalk "spring breakers", the public probably won't be able to learn what's happening through official public information channels. So, when the festival starts, please post your observations of gang stuff & we'll compare what posters see with what the PR people release to the public.

Downtown Music Festival should read:
R I V E R B E N D
Why in the hell does this board censor that word?

About time Gary saw the light on that den of iniquity known as Friends Of The Festival. Whenever a self-proclaimed nonprofit refuses to open their books and then demands free taxpayer funded services such as police protection, one knows that something is crooked.

I missed the festival last year. Were there incidents?

Kordax, what is your idea of an ideal city? You seem to have only negative comments on this one. Perhaps you should move to another city.

Did I miss something? I thought Gary Poole and Jeff Styles were the head pom-pom shakers for the annual downtown festival. Was there a falling out?

How are you gonna total the final number, Kordax The FoF numbers? The respective Mayoral numbers? The TFP numbers? The TIBRS numbers?
Or the street cop numbers?
If there is going to be wagering involved, we must agree on who's totals we are gonna count as valid or there will be arguing until Armageddon.

The FoF numbers
Now that's hillarious -- as though they'd admit to anything plural ....
I hadn't thought of a REAl wager but I'm up for it -- maybe losers springing for something forum function related .... What benchmark should we use? A tally of everyone's collective observations coupled with police incident reports? (What about those dreaded MISC categorized thingies?) Maybe a combination of individual's video cam chronicles + ER records + dead body findings?
You're the man, though -- what's the best way to measure?

I would think that the TIBRS reports would be the best measure as they have a box for "Gang related?" Yes or No.
The only problem is at Riverbend, D-1 reports (TIBRS) are seldom completed as we are just trying to wade through the masses and separate the combatants (Or potential combatants) before it gets to the Report Stage.
Pun intended.
Maybe a more accurate reflection would be to pull all the TIBRS reports for the site and the surrounding areas and use that number. But then what if they meet at Riverbend and arrange to fight it out in Ooltewah?
My whole point was basing decisions (Or Opinions) on stats alone is about as reliable as the way a drunk uses a lamp post. He can either use the lamp post for illuminating the situation or use it to prop himself up.
Either way...... he is still a drunk.
I trust Chip Baker and his numbers on anything about as much as I trust his piss poor running of the School Board.
I would say that however you measure it, the gang violence (Is there such a thing as gang non-violence?) at the Festival will be statistically, per capita, the same as it is for the rest of the area.
I will guarantee one thing, the gang violence will be less than the stupid-ass-drunk-fucker-violence at Riverbend.

Hmmm. Let's see. Chip Baker makes $150,000 a year for bringing Riverbend to town for one week.
Crash makes 15 bucks and some change per hour.
And yet, judging from their productivity, Crash is the one who is overpaid.
Because to date, gangs are reportedly still raging at Soddy-Daisy High...and Crash has not volunteered his expertise to clean them up.
Meanwhile, one of Crash's favorite cling-ons says the sweet children who fight nightly at the Riverpark are not gang members.
That's what makes this board great. High quality observations and entertainment, 24/7.
And now, back to the Police Ditto Corner.

I think you missed this post at ezboard... GaryPoole: "The powers-that-be at Riverbend have decided to "go in a new direction" with their website. I wish them luck in finding anyone willing to put the time and effort into the site for the price I charged. Should be interesting to see what happens." p103.ezboard.com/fsceniccityfrm24.showMessage?topicID=1956.topicDid I miss something? Mongrel, wouldn't you rather invest a little more time making an effective point/post the 1st or even 2nd time around? Seems like you're hell bent on nibbling at the same issue post after post after post ....

Pot, meet Kettle.
And thanks Jay, for the Poole/Riverbend explanation. I missed that the first time around...and it explains a lot.
Relax, Crash. And go grab another 12-pack.

Mongrel's not nibbling, Kordax, Mongrel is knawing on that same bone like a pitbull... Of course, I am just one of the Crash cling-ons what would I know about anything, according to Mongrel... LOL Hey Crash, can I cling a little tighter???

And you choose to read what was not written. No one ever said gangs are raging at Soddy, they said there were signs of gang activity. That's all. No knock down, drag out brawls in the halls. Some flashing of gang signs and colors, yeah, and some other things going on off campus by students there, but no knifings in home room. But to you, it is full on war, or nothing at all.
Pissant.

" Hey Crash, can I cling a little tighter???"
Ewww.
And thanks Worm, for your up-to-the-minute report from Soddy-Daisy High School. I appreciate you sharing your insider knowledge on "flashing of gang signs and colors" and the ultra-specific "other things going on off-campus." Now Crash and his junior volunteer anti-gang squad can focus on the problem with laser precision. (Except of course at the Riverpark, where Cling-On # 1A has determined there is no gang activity).
Worm my lad, you have earned a special blue Police Ditto Corner badge. Because you're special.

It is quite amusing to see mongrel TRY ever so hard to put on airs that his intelligence level is much higher than everyone else's. The simple fact (as there are no other types with mongrel) is that anyone who cannot even dare to consider another viewpoint or perspective without denigrating those who may disagree shows distinct shallowness. It could also be immaturity...In any event, it would probably be best if EVERYONE just completely ignored mongrel's posts. No replies/inuendos/snide remarks/side comments to the beast...just leave it be. A starving hound will generally scavage elsewhere when no scraps are provided.

What mongrel misunderstands is that while I do enjoy the festival itself and challenge anyone to find a similar entertainment experience for the money, I have some strong issues with the management of the festival.
Of course, the list of things mongrel misunderstands is a very long list and I don't have time to type them all out.
