Mayor Ron Littlefield said Tuesday he welcomes competition in the cable industry, but he said amendments are needed to a bill sought by AT&T in the Tennessee General Assembly. Mayor Littlefield said he is concerned about a loss of control by the city over cable services and utility right of ways. Patsy Hazlewood of AT&T (formerly BellSouth) defended the bill, saying it will bring a huge new investment to Tennessee and give customers more choices. City Attorney Randy Nelson questioned Ms. Hazlewood sharply on the bill, quoting from sections of it that he said would hamstring the city or leave it short of the revenues it receives now from Comcast. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_104364.asp

Patsy Hazelwood is a moron masquerading as an idiot.
Don't know her, but if that's the case due to her position on this issue, then Littlefield is just a bagman pocketing ever-increasing pre-arranged kickbacks from the cable company every time they inflict another rate increase on area consumers. In other words, Littlefield is a bagman masquerading as a bagman....

This is a case to two evils fighting to see who gets to screw the consumer more.

A good day to be a politician - no doubt plenty of "fringe benefits" are coming their way from under both sides of the table.

Were there an alternative to Comcast, I'd likely switch no matter the cost, just on general principals. They have TV viewers by the short and curlies, and they know it.

I hope to hell that this bill becomes law so that we have more competition in the cable field in this area. Let's remember that the franchise fee is nothing more than another tax to keep competition out of this area. Also the county commission back more than a decade ago, singed the franchise fee agreement when it first was started. In essense, both the city and county are getting thier hands into the franchise money. Of course they don't want any competition not when comcast is paying a kickback to them.
More competition means lower prices, plain and simple.

More competition is always better. It usually lowers prices to a more reasonable level. I wouldn't mind if Comcast finally dropped their prices for once.....
