Times have changed, or have they? Seventeen-year-old girls, what can I say? There can’t be a more difficult creature on the planet. Sharks - stay away, baboons - dangerous, birds of prey – predictable, pit bulls – can turn on you….put all those together with cute, adorable kittens, maybe that describes it. Prom, remember the days when you told your mom you needed a prom dress? She got on the phone and called all her friends to see who had a used dress in your size? If you were lucky you had two or three to choose from. She marched you across the street and you tried on the neighbor’s dresses from five years ago. Sure it would fit, if you stuffed the bust with toilet paper, that will do fine! You felt elegant. Your date brought your corsage and off to Shoney’s you went in mom’s station wagon, dreaming of fudge brownie cake. And what about today? The dress search begins in January. You probably have to venture forth into Dalton or Atlanta to find, “one of a kind.” The Mexican population has brought in more colorful arrays to our community. Of course, it will be “off the shoulder” or strapless, what else? How will you keep it from sliding off? Have your tried the bras that are “stick on”? Your parents will have to shell out a minimum of $150, probably more. If they don’t you will feel abused and neglected. You have to make an appointment to get your hair and nails done - that is a requirement. Because of all the beauty treatments you will have to skip school. Tests? They can wait. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_104777.asp

John Mason: Are you sure you're ready for this?
Stanley Goodspeed: I'll do my best.
John Mason: Your "best"! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f@ck the prom queen.
Stanley Goodspeed: Carla was the prom queen.
John Mason: Really?
Stanley Goodspeed: [cocks his gun] Yeah.

I had to google to find out what movie that came from I liked the Rock... That was a kewl movie! The needle scene made me flinch a bit, heh Ahhhh, kids nowadays.......such material teens! They just don't realize how bad it can be, 'eh?... I'm sure they'd just die if someone had the same dress as them.. They'd just die! Just another nice thing about being a guy. We don't have to worry about all that nonsense

Here's some perspective from my cousin who sent 3 girls to the Prom last weekend:
It's prom this weekend, and all three of my girls are going. R****** wasn't happy baby sister was invited, she had an evening all planned out, and E****messes up the numbers in her group. But two guys asked her, so..... And the one she accepted had a crush on R****** at one time, so I'm not too sure why she didn't accept the one who has only ever seen her for her, not as the baby sister, but...girls are weird. She's felt in R******'s shadow all year, so why? Maybe it feels good that someone asked her who was attracted to R****** initially, because it made R****** mad, even though she has a different and wonderful boyfriend....Sometimes sisterhood is poisonous! S**** is going stag. But she'll end up with T****t, brother of R******'s boyfriend, who asked E**** first, and who is one of my all time favorites....And E**** has G*****t, a safe first crush, by virtue of being not aggressively masculine and quite pretty, and older ( by 2 years, he's a junior.) Not many freshmen go to p rom...I'd just as soon wait! Totals so far: Prom dresses: 3, 1 @ $240, (S**** had to have hers altered, she is two very different sizes, top and bottom,1@ $105, (E****'s was 30% off) 1@$180 (R******'s, very different and she's making it more so with some personal touches) High Heels: 3 pair, 2 @ $17.99, 1 @ $ 34.99 Evening bags: 1@ $14.99, 1@$12.99 (yay for 50% off sales) 1 remains to be purchased Jewelry : 3 necklaces, 1@ $38, one @ $28, 1@$7.99, one brooch @$5 Earrings: 1pr @ $24, 1pr @ $6.99, one pair remains to be purchased Crest White Strips, 1box @ $34 Acne rescue treatment: 1 kit @ $30 Make-up, bronzer @ $12, 1 new eye color @ $7, 3 nail polish @ $2.99 each, Hair accessories, shoe pads, strap grips, miscellaneous, $84.79 Ballroom Dance lessons; 2, @ $12 each (E**** and G*****t wanted to have an edge) Temper tantrums: 6, 2 each R******, E****, and myself Acts of violence: 1, me (don't ask, I just had to hear something break) Therapy sessions;1, me, covered by insurance Remaining to be purchased, slips, pantihose, weapons of mass destruction, and more therapy when prom is a disappointment after all that drama! But.... that's part of growing up ....
But.... they all had a lovely time! And I didn't have to buy pantihose, or pantyhose, depending on who you ask and what brand.... S**** wanted some of the kind with the toes out, because she says they keep her feet from slipping in heels(I always had the opposite problem, back in the day when dressing up REQUIRED the damn things!), but we bought some gel insole things that worked perfectly... Of course, it ended up raining out their plans to go sit on the beach until sunrise, so they all ended up here, anyway, as I knew they would.... We had played hair all day long. Two of the other girls, M****** and G*****, came over, so we did 5 heads. R******'s hair is always perfect, so we saved her til last, and it WOULD NOT go up. They were nearly late by the time we got it to cooperate....
Now ... I've recovered from my hairspray-induced migraine, but it took a lortab to get me there, and I messed up my sleeping schedule, so I'll be out of whack for a week....Good thing it's spring break! ######################
I have SO much to look forward to with my dd!
