NEW YORK (Reuters) - Karen Jackson would be the first to admit her desk looks like a disaster area. Her stacks of papers and photographs are so sloppy that the Texas schoolteacher won first place in a contest to find America's messiest desk. Sponsored by publisher Little, Brown and Co., the competition promoted "A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder," by Eric Abrahamson and David Freedman, a new book that argues neatness is overrated, costs money, wastes time and quashes creativity. "We think that being more organized and ordered and neat is a good thing and it turns out, that's not always the case," said Freedman. complete story

Which is what I've been trying to convince my bosses for years. A clean desk is a sure sign of a sick mind.

Therefore, the clean-desk-sick-mind theory proves true. ;D *Muah*

"If you got time to lean you got time to clean" A clean desk means you have no work. If you have no work why are we paying you to be here? Messy desk means your working.....

It is impossible to be neat and clean with two children pulling out everything you put up! They still do not understand 'a place for everything and everything in it's place' GRR!

If I recall, wasn't it Albert Einstein who said, "If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, what shall we say then of the empty desk?"

I think like a lot of people..........my desk is extremely disorganized, and I can never find anything...
I'm all for the everything in its place ideal.....it's just too hard, heh...and I usually don't have anywhere to put a lot of things...

The past couple of days I've been sharing my desk with a co-worker while we work on a project together. My desk looks like a total wreak right now because of that but I usually at least have my work organized in neat, straight piles at the end of the day. While I'm working, though, things are a mess with at least two coffee cups with a couple of sips of cold coffee or tea sitting on the desk.

Non-sense.
There must be order.

This is merely an example of what my desk looks like. That sad thing is - and TCrash is a witness - my desk is actually much less cluttered than our offices, which represent a combination of half-built rooms, an electronics garage sale, and early 70's Wal-Mart interior design sensibilities.

You've been there around six months and you've already collected that much clutter? I work in an engineering office and it would take at least a year for me to collect enough paper to make my desk look like that.

It is 22:00 and the pic is gone. I think there is more to the issue than your browser.
The 'net could not handle that much analog data...

The case of the disappearing picture.... At least I'm not the only one with the problem.. Maybe it is a bandwidth issue....who knows.... Just out of curiosity, what browser do you use, gridbug?

My avatar does that periodically. I click refresh, and there it is.
I'm currently working with an architect on some stained glass for a church, and his entire office looks like that.
Beyond that, no further comment at the moment.

At least you guys don't have a fire marshal who comes through every now and then to frown at your piles of paper. For some reason, they find strange piles of fabric to be disturbing.
