Kitty, I lived in Oswego, it's about an hour north of Syracuse, right on Lake Ontario. I moved down here because my step-father was transferred here ( I was 15 at the time so I had to come with step-dad and mom). My parents were so shocked when I had to start school in August, where up north they start after Labor Day in September. I was mad because I had just got out of school at the end of June and then had to start here a little over a month later, I didn't get much of a summer break. The other thing we weren't used to were "class fees" Up north, we didn't have to pay for classes, everything was taken care of by taxes and such. The school system also wanted me to skip two years of school because the north is more advanced in studies compared to the south. I didn't skip the grades because I wanted to be with kids my own age, needless to say, most of my classes were with older kids anyway because I was bored in the grade level I was in. I was literately tutoring my own classmates because it was stuff we had already covered when I was in 9th grade up north. But my biggest downfall was I goofed off my senior year cuz I had enough credits to graduate save one and really didn't care about the fluff classes to make my schedule complete and I lost 10 places in my class rankins. still ended up 26th in a class of 300 though...

I'm familiar with Oswego FKL. I once lived in Pittsford. Tell me if you need direction on where that is.

If you're from NYC or LI, the accent does not go away completely ... it comes out when you're "pissed awf becawse they ran out of cawfee at the mawl."
Your Southern friends won't mention it because they're too polite. Bless your heart...
(from an ex-Long Islander who does not miss it at all and tries not to complain too much about the weather down here...)

Somewhere in Washington (Seattle, I think), it was 78 degrees and the beach was packed with people yesterday. The temperature is irrelevant - it could be 38, but if it is sunny peoiple will be at that beach ;-)
