For the past half hour, a propeller plane of some description has been circling low over my neighborhood. Loudly. Can't catch sight of it, but it keeps coming back.
Looking for the well-known N. Chatt Pot fields?

There are 4 of them in formation. I think they are lost.
From the 1930's

It's an attack?
Did they have the "Rising Sun" of the "Swastika" on them?
Or it may be the Chip Baker Air Force practicing their strafing runs.

Or the Chip Baker Air Force in a dog fight with that 1930's lost squadron Bloodound mentioned.
Either that, or the Holmberg Bridge vandals are trying to finish what they started.

I just saw 4 of them in a missing man formation fly over downtown - right about noon. So who are they memorializing?

It was for the funeral of someone "big" at Colledgedale Airport. They made the missing man pass then the ascending to heaven pass. That is where they are in the "tight formation" on a level pass and as they pass over the cemetery one of the planes breaks formation pulling straight up out of the formation and the others continue on. That signifies the pilot slipping the earthly bonds into heaven. For those with an aviation bug it is a very emotional event to see it.
The most moving one I ever saw was for the Daytona race after Earnhardt was killed. There were 4 F-16's. Instead of the left to right pass they went right to left form turn one/two to three/four. As they crossed turn four the #3 F-16 went vertical with full after burner until we lost sight of it in the sky. The other 3 continued on. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place.
