The Mount Vernon is a very good restaurant. I am very surprised they gave bad service, but not surprised at their gracious follow up. Best place for vegetables I have ever tried around here.
Lots of folks make fun of the place as an old folks' restaurant, but good food and service have kept me going back for years. Of course, now I am an "old folk" so probably I fit right in.

I'm just going to put a check mark in the "Really Good place" column.
The srevice was good, the food was excellent (We had the Blue Cheese Kettle Chips for a warm up, and Chicken Marsarla for the main course) and we enjoyed the private little TV.
No complaints at all, although we went around 5pm, and it was quiet at that point

Neal Pascal is a huge jerk. He comes into my work place sometimes and acts like we should all freak out because a celebrity is there. HA. Well, my work is always offering great service, great food, delivered in a timely manner and the management cares!! Every guest every time! Come visit me at Big River at the Hamilton Place mall.....after 2 years there, I love my guests, I take care of them and I even still eat the food there!!

We've been happy at Jet Stream. We've been a few times with friends and will probably go back this weekend. About 20 years ago, Neal went to one of the schools to do a weather talk. I ran into him, and to tell the truth, I was a little in awe seeing someone on tv everyday in person...someone I didn't already know. I reminded him about his visit recently and he remembered.

Neal used to get a cone every once in a while from Silver Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe in Brainerd Village when I worked there YEARS ago...pre-judge Walter Williams would also come in for a cup of strawberry ice occasionally. Neither were very uppity then.

We went back yesterday with about 12 people. Service was great! Orders ranged from lobster bisque to hamburgers to tuna sandwiches. All was great! We're going to Blackwell's today. Marvell will be 65 tomorrow, and his sister wants to take us to lunch. I haven't been, but he has. I think the overall opinion of this board is that it's a pretty good place. We've known his father for years, and I'm sure his son is a chip off the block!

My return email-- Dear Mrs. Lee I apologize for any part our restaurant had in making your evening unpleasant. We are blessed with an overwhelming majority of happy customers, who we work hard to please. Looks like there is nothing I can do for you. Neal That response, shows the lack of knowledge within restaurant hospitality industry. I tried to consult with him before the opening then even after the opening and heard the issues that they were having. He listened but obviously never listened. Which doesn't surprise me, as I have run into this situation time and time again here in Chattanooga. I love Chattanooga as a whole, but the overall restaurants are poor here. Between food, service, and lack of caring it sad that we have to deal with it. Granted, I am comparing to Seattle, Chicago, and New York, but it shouldn't matter, Chattanooga deserves the best. I am currently working on opening a restaurant myself, which I know will work. I can't reveal a lot of details at the moment, but I can assure others will have to raise their game to compete. Though honestly it depends on whether I get the building I want.

"...but I can assure others will have to raise their game to compete."
He said modestly.
Which others: St. John's, Back Inn, 212, Hennens and Blue Plate; or Krystal, Ryan's, Bea's and Jet Stream?

Your a funny one tnbear!!! That would be former not the later, but I am a bit amused that you would put Blue Plate along with a place like St. John's

To a point your correct, as I have seen that point proven wrong many times, but with the Chattanooga area, restaurant patrons seem to be a bit segmented and don't travel much. They have certain restaurants they seem to go to within a certain area, and don't seem to be much for venturing out.

I think I ment the other Blue whatever next to Big River. Too many Blue something restaurants in this city. I don't care for it much either, but some folks think quite well of it.

The Jet Stream Grill has closed its doors after less than two years serving food and drinks on Frazier Avenue.
Neal Pascal, former News Channel 9 meteorologist who now works for WRCB Channel 3, opened the restaurant and bar in late 2007 at 417 Frazier Ave.
This week, hand-written signs stating "closed" are taped to the doors and a banner hangs out front noting "Restaurant/Bar Space Available."
Neither Mr. Pascal nor James Perry, the real estate agent representing the property from The James Co., returned calls seeking comment.
WORST PLACE IN CHATTANOOGA!!!!!!!!!

The fact that The jet Stream grill was the last non chain restaurant somehow escaped my notice.

It wasn't the last one but locally owned restaurants are getting rarer and rarer. The passing of the Jet Stream Grill just added to the trend. I'm sorry Mr. Paschal couldn't get things pulled together to be a success.

I don't know how locally owned restaurants are doing in Lawerenceville Ga, but, I can name quite a number of highly successful non-chain restaurants up here in Chattanooga TN.
Jet Stream failed because it sucked. Period... And in the same building is Mercantino... great sandwiches and busy lunch crowd...so it isnt the location.... they were there before Jet Stream. Just because you have eaten in a restaurant doesn't mean you can run one.
Canyon Grill, Arethas, St Johns, Meeting Place, Boathouse, Taco Mamacitas, Taco Rock, Blue Grass, Blue Orleans, Terminal, Acropolis, 3 Lupis, St Elmo Thai place, Blackies, Hair of the Dog, La Altena, 2 Crusts, Mojo, Hennen's, all the local BBQ joints, Mudpie, Northshore grill, FoodWerks, Tubbys, Nikkis, Zarzours, Dave's Modern, Amigos, on and on and on are all proof that Chattanooga does like local, home grown restaurants.
So many here hate Neil, I could care less about all that. The restaurant failed because some people do not need to be in the restaurant business.

If you've never had a meal from at least ONE of the above that didn't--well, let's not be indelicate--you're very fortunate indeed. I like Neal Pascal, partially from the normal course of everyday business, but particularly because when he got jammed up legally, he manned up, 'fessed up, did his 'time', and didn't bitch about it. Confession: I never darkened the door of the place, mainly because I eat most meals during the course of my 'business' day, and it wasn't in my range of doing business. I have no excuse; I should have patronized the guy, and didn't. It's MY loss, I figure. I've never had a "bad" meal, because I've seen so WAY too many people in life who had no meal at all, or would never have another. I was graced to spend an evening with Warren Zevon once, long before his tragic loss, and it's his 'valediction' I'll remember always as I hope he's always remembered: "Enjoy Every Sandwich". bon appetit!

And all that has what to do about what? "Enjoy Every Sandwich" We are not talking about homeless people. I have never heard or know Warren Zevone.
Just because Neil 'manned up' his restaurant gets a pass?
What kind of logic is that?
We are talking about customers who have money and have a choice where they spend those dollars for a dining/eating experience.
