I figured you were going to go with something like SMF or the like to host locally. What was the reasoning behind having to still keep paying a monthly board hosting fee? Or was work going to rape you on a colo cost? (Still a big fan of SMF) www.simplemachines.org/Later, dabone

Two basic reasons:
1) SMF takes a LOT more work for me to maintain (remember, this forum is a hobby), and
2) The bandwidth/hosting costs would be about the same no matter where I went.
BUT, remember that this is only a TEST - we won't make a decision about ProBoards until next week, when everyone has had a chance to play around. And SMF is still in development, as we are looking at offering it for commercial use to our web clients.

PowWeb offers a lot of bandwidth for a very low price. Check them out.

I can beat any company price internally. It isn't a matter of rate, it a matter of the amount used with our traffic (250,000+ page views a month on average).
But reason #1 is still the primary reason - I want to spend the majority of my time reading and replying, not doing admin stuff.
And the only real benefit of paying to be ad-free is that we don't have the Google Ads banner right below the main logo at the top of the page. We don't lose any functionality, which was the case with ezBoard.

I can't go back, Gary.
If this place is 86'd, then leave it running for me.

Voting starts Monday. We'll need a two-thirds majority of votes cast to make the move official.

Two thirds? What's wrong w/ majority votes? If it worked for Al Gore.....wait...I guess it didn't.... Well, as long as there isn't an electoral college, I guess it could work... ~J

I feel that we need to have a strong consensus to validate a major move. If less 2/3rds of the members approve of the place, that's not a strong enough consensus for me.
This is a community. I'm more the Mayor than the Dictator (though I often have to be Police Chief and Judge), so I prefer a more demcractic approach to decision making.

I've tried that lifestyle, and it's just not my bag.
I'm staying. Gary will let me rename the joint, I'll darken it up, and live here. You can come back to this Island and visit at will.

LS! observed: Here...we Fight in the Shade. Ah, we are going to see that movie this afternoon. Whatever else they did, I am sure the Spartans never used EZBoard.

I smell a perfect line for a Ray Ban commercial. This would be their best commercial since the vampires on the steps.
A pack of chippendales dressed gladitorially with sunglasses - "Then we will fight in shades"
