Not a whole lot...but I know people who do. Why? OK. Thought you did some work for them. No whoop. thehill.com/business--lobby/bottom-line-2005-11-30.htmlOnly if the definition is stretched beyond all recognition. We didn't build an interstate highway system as make-work or to inordinately benefit one industry; it was sold by Eisenhower as national defense. The chairman of the Commerce Committee, Representative Billy Tauzin (R-La.), coauthored the Medicare Part D as he negotiated a $2-million-per-year job as CEO for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). He went from overseer to lobbyist of the very trade group benefitting most from what he was sworn to regulate.

Stuff like that really makes me angry... How could he get away with that?... Isn't there supposed to be some lobbyist regulations to stop stuff like this?

My partner has done some work for PhRMA at the state level but it has been very limited. I have not been involved.
Regarding the highway system, yes Eisenhower did sell the interstate system in the name of national defense but the concept did not begin with him and the real benefit derived from the system was interstate commerce. And, as I recall, it would not have made its way through the Senate were it not for Tennessee Senator Albert Gore, Sr. who championed the effort in the Congress.
I suspect there were plenty at the time who viewed this national interstate system as pork.

I just heard on CNN headline news that our dollar dropped again against the Euro. It now take 2 of our dollars to equal 1 of their currency

I think it takes two dollars to buy a British pound. One Euro buys $1.36, roughly. Still a shock, since in the early 80's the dollar and pound were almost at parity.

LT you are right....it is the pound not the euro. I can't keep up with their currency. I guess I won't be planning a trip to Great Britain anytime soon.
