Thursday afternoon at 5:15 pm Chattanooga Police responded to 624 West 13th Street Court on a traffic accident involving a pedestrian. Officers found a 3 year child that had been struck by a vehicle along with the child’s grandmother. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The child died after arriving at T. C, Thompson and the grandmothers injuries were not life threatening. Traffic Investigator Michael Ortel identified the child as Dathan L. Brydie age 3 and the grandmother Willie Renee Miller age 49 of Chattanooga. Investigator Ortel advised the grandmother and child was walking in between 2 buildings when the child ran in front of the grandmother and into the path of a 1999 Chevy driving down street. The Chevy was driven by Paul Jones age 74 of Ooltewah. Witnesses told investigators that the grandmother could not catch the child before the impact and was struck also in her effort to save the child.
