I am pretty ambivalent about a mention or not. If it were a substantially larger number, say fifty thousand, then I would say there is a story. But it is purely subjective. My guess is that the 8000 number is probably overblown and being put out there by the organizers rather than any type of official estimation. I bet that the numbers were probably substantially lower. If that is the case, the media has no real obligation to report it at all.
The reality is, however, that it is not much of an issue because most people do not really care about it one way or another because they know that taxes will be collected in one manner or another. Very few people actually think about what is the best method....nor care. That is why it is not much of an issue.
Politicians are not going to take up and advance the issue either as long as the economy is strong and growing. The argument for a better structure notwithstanding, transitioning to a substantially different form of taxation, in and of itself, would be a major disruption to the economy. No politician is going to take on that political risk.

Just in case anyone was in doubt, I will admit to being one of the "left leaning" members of this fine forum. I have never heard of Mr. Paul, and have to say that when I first saw this thread I did think it was about the traffic reporter. However, comma, I think I read that this gentleman is from Texas. If so he can kiss my vote bye bye, another gentleman from Texas has screwed this country up beyond all recognition. I am almost certain that it is a proven fact that Texans don't have the good sense God gave a fencepost.

Good point, DaWorm. And it also hits at the point Justin made about policymakers only talking in soundbites. They talk in soundbites because that is the only thing the media understands and will cover. Public discourse with any real substance on any issue is pretty much non-existent in todays world for that reason.

And just where has Rudy made that statement or indicated he holds that belief?
Ron Paul is not helping himself with the follow up interviews.
