I watched "Monster-In-Law" over the weekend. It was funny.
I also saw "Happy Feet" Thursday night. Funny AND had a message. Loved the music.

Grindhouse... cool for movie lovers, but mainstream audiences will find little joy in three and a half hours of faux-explotation flicks. I personally had a blast. I like rodriguez's passion and energy, but I think he's a lousy writer and his movies are real hit-or-miss. Even when they hit, they're nothing special. Just kinda good.
Tarantino's movie was a million times better, but I doubt mainstream audiences would enjoy it. So much of what makes Tarantino great to me is the misdirects -- the plants and unexpected pay-offs -- the way he fucks with expectation. The guy's seen every movie in history, and he's a master at leading an audience down one path, only to kick them in the nuts.
At home, I watched The General and a collection of Buster Keaton shorts. Movies just don't get any better than The General.

Just got back from GrindHouse! WHOOO - F'N - HOO!
What a hoot. We laughed and cheered through the entire flick. I don't know if anyone under 40 is going to get all the 'in jokes' - and they sure aren't going to get all nostalgic about 'scratches, pops and hisses' in the film... but as an old fart who WAS a teen in the late 70's, this was a scream. It was also fun to watch for the little sight gags that Tarantino put in, like Kurt Russel's shirt from Big Trouble in Little China tacked to the wall in the bar.
I can't wait to get this on DVD and start looking at the backgrounds for everything that I missed the first time.

LOVED Grindhouse!!!
Don't forget the big Chattanooga reference in Deathproof. It was set in Tennessee around Lebanon, but for the first part Stuntman Mike is wearing an Icy Hot jacket! Usher may not like is, but Tarentino does!

Just Like Heaven - sweet & likeable, just like the cast.
An Inconvenient Truth - interesting data. Regardless of where one stands on the global warming issue, it causes the viewer to consider the impact each of us has on this earth through our actions. Thought-provoking.

Yes, Icy Hot is made right here by Chattem Drugs. A sneaky reference but a very prominent one. Just like Big Kahuna Burger had to be there

Nope, won't waste my money on it. Got a copy you want to loan me?
But, I'll stand by just how little one person can affect the earth as a whole. Now, a whole lot of people added together, yeah, but just me and the planet? I might manage to burn down a forest or two in a lifetime, but that's about it.

Naaah, I haven't watched it either. I was just wonderin' I guess it depends who you are. I believe one person can cause tremendous change on a huge scale.

Out of curiosity, howso?? I am of the firm belief that the entire population of the planet, let alone one single person, can do more than relatively minor damage to the planet. Humans are at the mercy of the planet, not the other way around. About the only thing that we as a species can do is kill each other (and the majority of other species) off, which wouldn't affect the planet one little bit. Any damage that we do to the planet would be self-repaired in a few millenia (at most) if humanity wasn't here to fuck it all up.

I read snippets. Gore makes assumptions, then treats the assumptions as facts later.

I just saw Unleashed for the first time last night. It has Jet Li and Morgan Freeman. I really enjoyed it It was a fun movie with an interesting story. Jet Li as a someone treated and trained as a dog since he was young.. Escapes captivity to *try* to lead a normal life. Good movie

I read snippets. Gore makes assumptions, then treats the assumptions as facts later. The data was interesting, not Gore. Just seeing the recorded rise in CO 2 levels & temperature over the past 40 years was interesting. One person may not have a huge impact through his personal use of resources. Multiply that by a few million though, an impact may well be observed. Gotta start somewhere...can't just throw up my hands & say "I can't".

And to continue with the movie thread, I watched "The Lake House" yesterday. Sweet little flick that was pleasant to watch. Keanu is always easy on my eyes.

Yes, xterra, they are. I think Bullock is getting even prettier...and Reeves more handsome as he ages. Interesting, to contrast their roles in Speed versus The Lake House.
The time loop thing in TLH is mind-bending if I think about it too much. Especially at the end...how will everything be different? Will his brother still be with the architectural firm? If I think about it too much, it detracts from the movie.

Out of curiosity, howso?? One single person acting on their own can't do much. But one single person can start a movement, can create an organization, can lead people to make tremendous change. Those are my own beliefs, anyway

Whoop-de-do. Look, there's no need to pollute for pollution's sake. No need to poison rivers or deforest every square inch of land in sight. But I cannot understand how carbon dioxide emissions from cars and factories can be a significant cause of pollution, when a single volcanic eruption can release more than we've ever created since the beginning of the industrial revolution. I refuse to waste time or money to fight a process that cannot possibly be causing any more problems than Mt. St. Helens. If you want to fight pollution, stick to mercury and pesticides.
