Kid Rock is by far the best act I've seen live, and that was at RB a few years ago. Next would be LL Cool J also at RB the same year.
Others that I can think of is Jessica Andrews Toby Kieth,Alan Jackson,Taylor Swift,Def Lepperd,Avenged 7fold,Hinder,Papa Roach, Carrie Underwood,Trace Adkins,Metallica,Kiss,Michelle Branch,Collective Soul,Shine Down,Nickle Back,Red Hot Chili Peppers,Foo Fighters,Fuel,ZZ Top,and I hear Rush but that was before my time.
Also Marcy Playground will be playing tonight at Rhythm and Blues IIRC
Phew....let me rest my noggin, and maybe I can think of some more later

The Who, I think it was in 1967...at one of Tommy Jett's " Jet Fly Spectaculars."

John Prine (twice) and John Hiatt at Nightfall, free concerts.
Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie on the Coke Stage at Riverbend, the only time I watched a complete show on that stage and loved every minute. The audience was small enough that I could get close, probably a disappointment to the organizers, who want big numbers above all at that stage.
Emmy Lou Harris at Memorial Auditorium, 1980 or so. Jimmy Buffett at the Round House, 1982, poor venue, great show.
Shawn Colvin, James McMurtry, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jonell Mosser and many others at various "side stages" at Riverbend.
Paul Winter, "Sun Singer" concert at the Hunter during Riverbend one year, wonderful and I don't usually like jazz.
Memory fails...for now.
**Modified to say that the topic seemed framed for touring acts not local, but I would have to add a free concert at Miller Park to launch Jennifer Daniel's Summer Filled Sky CD release; the encore was an a capella* version of "I don't have enough," one of the cuts from that CD, and JD blew the doors off the song - what intensity. * at least that is how I remember it, voice only but what emotion and power.

Kiss, Ozzy & Metallica, Jethro Tull (twice, three counting Riverbend). Man or Astroman also played at The Lizard Lounge, as well as a great show at The Bay, where I also saw Henry Rollins on one of his spoken word tours.
The Bad Livers also put on a great show at the Market Street Performance Hall.
I remember the Chili Peppers at the Nucleus. At the time I thought they sucked. Shows what I knew.

The late, great Mrs. Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, aka "Minnie Pearl". Tivoli Theater circa 1976. She stayed at the Choo-Choo and travelled in a Rolls-Royce. A genteel and graceful lady.
"Hootie and the Blowfish", "Drivin' and Cryin'", George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, Ace Frehley, The Floating Men and Jupiter Coyote at The Sandbar and National Guard Armory. (We had to storm the upper deck and root out Ace and his bar whores--they set the canopy on fire.)
Chicago, UTC Arena. They played nearly four hours.
The Memorial Auditorium had just spent $15,000 for all-new seating prior to the Phish show. Bad idea; they stomped nearly every single ground-floor seat to rubble, necessitating a complete refit.

I was at Riverbend when Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie Played on the Coke Stage. It was a very small crowd. Plenty of empty places all around.

I guess Chattanooga is considered a second tier concert venue, but we have had some great acts. Elton John played UTC Arena too I think. Of course, at Lake Winnie, a who's who of country music has played there. This was before country became mainstream. Had no idea The Who played here. Hard to to top that. The Who were on their first American tour. They opened for Hermen's Hermits. Paul Revere and The Raiders were at the same concert. I saw Neil Diamond at one of those Jet Fly thingys...Can't remember which one.

this thread would be more interesting if Coke Stage acts were eliminated from the lists.
those barely count since nobody can actually see the bands w/o VIP access.

Best Riverbend side stage - Etta James (around 1990) Best Riverbend Coke stage - Kenny Loggins (mid 90s I think)
I also saw Alabama at the Roundhouse sometime when they first made it "big." Wasn't a huge fan, but I had free tickets.
I also enjoyed M.C. Hammer when the Aquarium opened. I remember the big blue catfish flashed on the Aquarium dancing while he sang "You Can't Touch This."

Foo Fighters & Red Hot CHili Peppers @ the Roundhouse 1999
Tripping Daisy @ the Sandbar,.. maybe '96
Cracker @ 2000's shortlived "Southside Saturday Nights" @ the Pavillion. Oh yeah,.. and last week @ R&B,... me and about 49 others watched a 100% pure rock n roll show
Tea Leaf Green & BLuegorund Undergrass - Riverbend 2006 @ the Unum Stage
North Miss. Allstars & Undergrass @ the 1st Cookin' on the Quarter
Drivin' n' Cryin' 2 weeks ago and everytime they've played in CHatt. over the last 20 years
WSP - UTC arena 2001 - my first panic show and probably one of the most "eye-opening" concert I've ever attended
Dumpstaphunk @ Nightfall last year
3 doors down (before the totally pussed out) @ the Bay,... 2003
Saliva @ the Bay - when they first hit the scene ,... 2002
Collective Soul @ the (then) Cricket Pavilion ,... 2001 maybe
George Clinton & P-Funk @ the Bay 1999 maybe
.moe - stage on the green @ Riverbend 2006
.moe - @ the Readhouse 2000
The Old Attic above Phat Wraps - over the course of their 2+ years - Drive By Truckers, David Cross, The StarRoom Boys, Nashville Pussy
Soul Asylum @ the Roundhouse on an off day of Riverbend in 1998,... maybe,... maybe 1000 people in the building. In between songs Dave Pirner said "wow this place is big,.. what'd you guys do in here? play basketball?" and then continued to kill the show as if there were 10K in the building.
Robby Krieger @ the Bay,... 1999 maybe
Kid Rock & Gov't Mule - Roundhouse,... 2005 probably,... Kid ROck whatever,... but Warren Haynes & Mule killed it
I'm missing a ton more. But there's a handful that most people didn't know about or forgot about

I saw Skynyrd do a private concert at the Walden Club.... Aaaahhhh..the legendary Walden club gig that claims one of the most "uncomfortable" moments in Chattanooga live music history...the choice of Charmin Jeff Harmon to emcee.Whoaaaaa,I thought I was at a Duran,Duran show.

Fun list. One thing: Are you sure that Buffet show wasn't the one at Engel stadium that was part of the beginnings of Riverbend? It was a good show, but apparently JB was not happy about something and has vowed to never play here again because of it. Anybody know why?

Wasn't happy with stage,mud....lousy mood but turned the "on" switch when show started.I thought Little Feat was the better show that day.I believe that show was July 1990 not 1982.

And why don't Here Come The Mummies count, Bryan? The thread was started with great performances playing at any venue?
The Mummies have played at Riverbend, Nightfall, UTC, R & B, the Pavillion.
