On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.

Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies.

We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

Now known as Patriot Day, September 11 is one of several official Flag Holidays, as designated by federal law, when Americans around the world should make a special effort to display their flags.
Others are New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Inauguration Day, Lincoln's Birthday, President's Day, Easter Sunday (!), Mother's Day, Peace Officer's Memorial Day (flown half-staff until noon), Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day (half-staff until noon), Flag Day/Army Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Constitution Day/Air Force Day, Gold Star Mother's Day, Columbus Day, Navy Day, Election Day, Marine Corps Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (half-staff until noon), and Christmas Day (!). Any American flag that cannot be lowered to half-staff should be displayed with a black bow attached to the staff (until noon, if appropriate).
Otherwise, year-round is great! And, remember the flag should be lighted if flown between sunset and sunrise.
