www.comcast.net/articles/entertainment/20090915/US.Obit.Swayze/LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into moviegoers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57. "Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. Swayze died in Los Angeles, Wolf said, but declined to give further details. Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer. He kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot.

My favorite Patrick Swayze moment was his Chippendale spoof on SNL with Chris Farley. Good sports, both of them.

Sad.
A very dear friend of mine died of the same disease.
Both died way too young.

pancreatic cancer is the last of the cancers that can not be pro-longed. Once diagnosed, buy the coffin because you are 6 months walking dead.
If everyone diagnosed with any sort of cancer would just go ahead and die... our health insurance costs would probably be half what they are now.

I really hope you're joking and even if you are, it's in poor taste. Obviously, you've never had a loved one diagnosed with "any sort of cancer" have you?

He obviously has not experienced this. I sincerely hope for his sake that he never has to go through any of the treatments that are involved with any sort of cancer. As a breast cancer survivor, I continued to work through all of my surgeries and still work 2 jobs. I pay for my own health insurance and haven't seen my costs go up due to my illness. My mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer as well and just had another one of her surgeries and she also has paid for her own health insurance. And at no time have we asked anyone else to pay any of our costs!!!

Never cared for his movies, but sorry that he died. How about Red Dawn? I didn't care for many of them but that one is a classic.

Never cared for his movies, but sorry that he died. Its easy to forget how many classic movies he was in. I am sure there is at least one movie in this list you care about... Donnie Darko - Great. Point Break - Very good. Ghost - Chick Flick, but good. Road House - Masterpiece. Red Dawn - Classic. The Outsiders - Impossible not to like. "Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true." "All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice." "If somebody gets in your face and calls you a c****s***er, I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal. Steve: Being called a ******** isn't personal? Dalton: No. It's two nouns combined to elicit a prescribed response. Steve: What if somebody calls my mama a whore? Dalton: Is she?" Words to live by.

And at no time have we asked anyone else to pay any of our costs!!! My husband was diagnosed with head and neck cancer last year. Many chemo and radiation treatments later, thank God he is cancer free. We are still paying for some of that treatment. My husband also continued to work through all his treatments and surgeries. I don't want to get on my soapbox as there is another area I should post this in but there are all kinds of things we can blame rising healthcare costs on including obesity, smoking and drinking. The list could go on and on. I hope ffftspam isn't a fat, drunk smoker. Maybe he/she could do us all a favor and just get it over with. And for what it's worth, I loved Patrick in Road House and Next of Kin but Dirty Dancing was THE best!

Red Dawn was good. I haven't seen Darko. I did not like Road House or Next of Kin, and Dirty Dancing or Ghost, hell no. That's just me, though. If it says anything about me, I like more Kurt Russell movies than Swayze movies, so I suppose my opinions don't count for much and Roger Ebert won't be calling me to join his show.

He was good in The Outsiders and Red Dawn. Anything after that was just an excuse to take his shirt off for the ladies and ticket sales.

It's the rest of the time that is the problem. I was astounded to learn this while watching my sister sucumb to breast cancer. Her Oncologist explained to me how every single day every one of us produces cancerous cells and our bodies kill these cells. The key to finding a cure for cancer is to determine why our bodies kill some of the cancer cells but not all of them.

Kurt Russell is a good comparison to Swayze. He, Swayze and Dennis Quaid, are all really good but underrated actors. All have been in classics, but are not really considered "movie stars". They all have played cheezy ("Im in on the joke, but lets have fun") roles. Escape from New York is a classic just like Road House is a classic. So I guess neither your or I will be on Ebert's show.
