you all want the skinny on the deal with the drive thru windows? i used to be an assistant manager for Krystal, and i have dealt with this kind of rage many many times. here is a small explanation
of what goes on behind that glass, before you ever pull in that lot for some food.
life is about money. period. bonus packages of the store managers are based off many factors, including but not limited to ketchup or salt or sugar. 99% of all fast food windows have a sticker that clearly states condiments upon request. so, if you do not ask for said ketchup or mustard or salt packets, you get nothing. those items are called non sellables. other non sellables include toilet paper, jelly packets, napkins, dish soap, garbage bags, floor cleaner, mops and brooms and trash cans, sugar, salt, ketchup, straws, etc etc are non recoverable items. those items come out of the P&Ls for the month, and that is directly factored in to the sales/loss percentage for the week.
i could get in to a detailed discussion over the calculations of the numbers, but for the most of the readers here, it would be useless rambling.
"#3, large, with a coke, and that is all." that is a plain and simple order. shut your mouth, ring it up and move on to the next customer. that is how it is supposed to be done, BUT like i said, money makes the world go around, upselling or suggestive selling is a required part of each cashiers job. if they do not do that, they will most likely get in trouble, as that is a part of performing the cashiers job. is it annoying? yes it is, but who gives a shit if you get mad for 15 seconds, you will still probably pay for your food and go on about your business. they win, you still bought the food, and the money goes in the register.
ever see the cashiers at krystal who wear those god awful yellow shirts? they have proven to be the best in that store at the cashier position, and they are the highest paid employees on the clock. some of them are making 10+ bucks an hour.
next time you deal with one of these situations, take a minute to stop and think that they are not asking you to buy that apple pie just to be a smart ass, they have to do it or they risk getting a write up for not performing the job.
now that i have covered that portion, here is the everyday facts to some real complaints.
not giving napkins is usually an accident, but i have seen some people get really hateful with the cashier, and that is the final fuck you without really saying fuck you. same thing goes for no straw, or a fork with your chili.
it took me working in that environment to fully understand what goes on, so the next time your job pisses you off as you are on your way to lunch, dont let your bad work day ruin someone else's work day.
Kharma is a bitch.
My rant was really about people doing stupid thing while in the line at the drive thru, not the workers.
For the most part, the workers try to do their job the best they can. But I've seen alot of incompetent people there. I've had my order read back to me 3 times in row wrong and still didn't have it right when I got to the window.
