I was wandering if anyone was aware of a restaurant, well really I guess a coffee house, that is more like a lounge where there is an open mic night just about every night or at least has a mic night. If anyone has seen the movie "So I Married an Axe Murderer" with Mike Myers, I guess I was trying to find something kind of like that in the area. I fairly new to the area and am pretty busy but I like to find spontaneous and random places to go on dates. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, [glow=red,2,300]Mike[/glow]

I've been banned from most places with open mics.

There is a place in downtown Lawrenceville called "The Singin' Bean" that is a coffee shop with an open mic night every night. I think it is mainly music, though. I think Karaoke may be a big part of their open mic also. But Lawrenceville is 140 miles from Chattanooga so this probably isn't an option you are looking for.

Greenville Seafood used to have an open mic night on Thursday nights. Great seafood and great entertainment too, of course it is in Greenville Mississippi, about 480 miles away, and it was about 15 years ago.

The Mudpie on Frazier Ave. does a poetry thing monday nights and a regular open mic Saturdays.
J.J.'s Bohemia does it on Wednesdays I believe and The Riverhouse has one on Thursdays. Of the three I'd guess Mudpie is your best bet (more of a spoken word/poetry thing) but all of them are open to anyone...

Alan Gold's has open mike night. Nice crowd too. I heard you can hardly sit down without someone asking if they can push your stool in.

i haven't been yet but Mudpie has open mic night on Saturdays and a spoken word group has that on Monday nights that I have been to, unsure if you want comedic open mic /singing/ performance poetry. But something can be found by looking it up. SpeakEasy is on Monday nights although it is pg-13 rated stuff so minor profanity and only loosely suggestive writing.\
I will be at the mudpie on most Monday nights for The SpeakEasy crowd, I have only been once but enjoyed myself immensely. Come along and see what might strike your fancy, and maybe make some new friends and connections.

I think Tremont Tavern has one on Tues, but you might call first.

I think Tremont Tavern has one on Tues, but you might call first. The Tremont Tavern website confirms that: "Tuesday: Open mic hosted by Mike Mcdade, 9p until." It is in North Chattanooga/Riverview, only 2.6 miles from downtown Chattanooga. Its sibling, Market Street Tavern (downtown at Market and MLK), has "Thursday: Open Mic with Gabriel Newell. $2 Draft pint special and open mic beginning at 9p.".
