I have a question for all the camera gurus' out there. I have a HP digital camera and got a 1 gig SD Impact memory card to put in it. Everything was fine, until Saturday morning, I downloaded all my pictures to my computer and then deleted the pictures off the camera because I was going to a wedding and wanted to start with a "fresh" card. well, I took the first few pictures when I got there, then my camera turned off automatically.. when I turned the camera back on, I had a red screen that said the memory card was the wrong format and to format the card. I did which in turn wiped out all my pictures I had already taken. Now, everytime I turn on the camera, it tells me to reformat the card again. I can't get past that screen and in turn, all my pictures have been deleted. I tried to take a picture, go to view and use the delete and format button, but it still is doing the same thing. Help!!! Please?

Could very well be a bad memory card. The blocks go bad. What type is it? SD or Cf?

I just got off the phone with HP's "help" desk... they told me I have to mail them a copy of my receipt showing that the camera was purchased within the last 3 months before they can help me on the phone!!! I have NEVER heard of such a thing!!! I told them that this would be my last HP purchase if that is the way their support system works. It shouldn't matter if I bought the camera last night or last year, they should be able to help fix problems with THEIR merchandise. I told them that this was a birthday present from my husband (which it was) and I didn't know if he still had the receipt or not. Customer service SUCKS at HP.

LOL, in addition to the story, I had called 2 times previously to the lady I got that told me I had to send her a receipt. The first 2 guys I got were of some other nationality than American and I couldn't understand a thing they were asking me. I kept repeating over and over that I couldn't understand them and I was requesting to be transferred to someone who spoke better English...neither one could do that for me. I finally had to hang up both times and call again.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. HP = great ideas and lousy execution. I don't buy their stuff.

First - take the card and format it in your PC don't delete, FORMAT.
Second - put the card in the camera and format it again.
Now does the number of photos left match what it should be for an "empty" card? if not sandisk has a recovery utility on their web site that can correct bad formats.
Once the card is working again, take a sharpie and mark it SPARE and buy another card. They aren't that much any more. And you shouldn't trust this one with important stuff.
The computer writes differently than the camera so if you delete files with the computer the camera might work fine but probably won't. When you format a card with the PC it completely erases the card, the camera erases the card and then creates folders and stuff it needs.
Always format/delete cards with the camera, never the PC

I just found out, it's a Lexar memory card, not SanDisk. I have never formatted the card thru the computer, I have always deleted the pics from the camera. Only time I use the PC is for downloading by way of USB cable. I just emailed Lexar and waiting on a response from them to see if they know what to do (as long as they don't ask me for a receipt).

When you format a card with the PC it sets it to the state it was in when it was new. Then you format it in the camera to make it useable.
Doesn't matter WHOS card it is, the utility will still work.

Card is most probably dead. The utility may work. I've thrown away several. (one by accident) Look here www.Geeks.com
