No choice for me; trying to drive to Dalton & back in a Cobalt would be reckless to say the least. I'm just worried about getting the time cards in for payroll on Friday. Nobody else apparently made it into the office, even the locals. Today will be spent attempting to sweep off the car & shovel the driveway a little.

Maybe it's just me.
It's about 6:30p, and I'm watching local weather on teevee. So far, most of the time has been spent telling us how much snow we've gotten - to the nearest inch - in dozens of communities around Chattanooga. Then, we get the predictions for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, etc. I've been off work today, but I need to try to get to work by 6a tomorrow. I do not give a rat's snow-covered patootie how much snow fell on Gruetli-Laager today, I want to know what is expected -tomorrow morning-. Predicting sunshine for Friday is fine, but what is the forecast for Tuesday morning? Do the teevee management people still wonder why the good ones (Allison Chinchar being the latest) head for more professional markets?! I'll brave the weather and streets tomorrow morning at 5 and try to get to work. At this point, I have no clue what I'll face, weather-wise, but, at least I know I can slip 'n' slide my way through the red lights, since there will be far fewer CPD cars on the street... </ end of rant.

pictureman, I think the prediction is freezing rain and in the 20s.
had to get out today for a bit, and i wonder how long it'll get the salt truck to make it to the minor roads like East Brainerd and Gunbarrel (the only ones I drove on today other then my subdivision)

Thanks, Bob, I feel much better now...erp....
I am going to try, however, to make it downtown tomorrow morning about 5a. Since I'll be out - I hope - call me if you need something. Shoot me a pm if you don't have my cell phone #.
Police Moderator: I hate this stuff, too. Next winter it's south with my daughter's family in West Palm Beach. By the way, I hear that the PBSO is hiring...

Isn't this sad? I dimly recall the jubilation I felt as a kid when weathermen John Grey and Mort Lloyd intoned the sacred word: "Snow". WWHHOOPPPEEE!!!! No Skhool, no early bedtime, knock your brains out hitting trees, traffic, parked cars, and barking dogs with the trusty old Flying Coffin sled; www.greensheet.us/wp-content/uploads/cache/1261170840-3.jpg_thumbzoom.jpgdrink yourself into a coma with hot Nestle's hot choc or Ovaltine, watch Andy Williams and wonder what Claudine looked like without her shirt on (guess poor old Spider wondered about that, too). Shouldn't we be COMPENSATED for the loss of our sense of 'wonder' over such natural and wonderful things???

Personally, I can't stand to let perfectly good over ripe bananas go to waste. I have my 2nd set of 3 loaves of banana bread in the oven as I type. I just washed out the crock pot so I can put round 2 of the potato soup in to cook all night.
Hey! When I'm home... I cook.

I joined the impromptu block party outside my house and had a blast sledding down the hill while my neighbor used his ATV to go up and down the street picking up sledders to go back to the top... A BLAST I tell you!

I had a blast, tred to go to work, made it about 15 miles and was told by another motorist that the road I was headed down was blocked by an overturned 18 wheeler, so made it back home, finished off a bottle of Bacardi, started on a bottle of Makers, took a nice nap, fixed a big meal, and now watching a helluva football game. I LOVE THE SNOW!!!

Watching the football game. Can I say "Go SEC" and "F%^& Cam Newton" at the same time? Really, I want Newton knocked out of the game (cleanly) and Auburn to win anyway. I'm tired of Cam this and Cam that. But, if I really thought I'd have to go to work tomorrow, I wouldn't be on my fifth Natty Light right now...

I'm thinking I might have to walk to the store today and see if they manage to open. The liquor store too. I'm thinking some rum in my tea would be nice.

I may actually have to plow a path to the grocery. We're actually running low on milk & eggs. Maybe it has something to do with those 6 loaves of banana bread I baked?

I escaped!!! I made it off my hill!!!! Red Bank sent a plow with salt/sand that cleared just enough that all I had to do was get the 500 or so feet from my driveway to the sanded part. Dicey, but I managed it:-D
and promptly parked at the bottom rather than trying to drive back up to my house in anticipation of tonight's freeze.

My neighbors owe me, big.
Got the only street in/out plowed, salted and sanded.
Should be OK for all of them to go to work tomorrow. Maybe they don't owe me so big after all. Sorry neighbors.

My neighbors owe me now. I realized that while I can walk up and down this hill, some of them can't, and several are infirm. So I shoveled the street from two driveways up down to the corner where the salt truck turned. Now if the octogenarian next door has a heart attack, there's a good chance the ambulance can get to her.

LOL Hubby got out and shoveled the snow off our driveway. It looks nice and dry this morning. Can't say the same for the STREET in front of my house. I'm taking at least another Snow Morning off. MIGHT venture out around noonish. For now, it's Oatmeal with raisins cooked with apple juice instead of water. YUMMY! And a little more WoW.

I had no travel problems whatsoever.
I made it all the way from the recliner to the coffee pot to the bathroom and back to the recliner with no wrecks at all. I'm so good.
We won't discuss my gas mileage.

All you wise and sane people....please tell your idiot neighbors/relatives/co-workers that the stuff frozen onto the streets is called ICE. It is very slippery, and if you try to drive on it YOU WILL WRECK YOUR CAR. The 3 or 4 OTHER WRECKED CARS on your road SHOULD have been what we in the business commonly refer to as A CLUE. Make sure you also inform them that neither 4-wheel drive nor "lots and lots of NASCAR viewing" will stop you from WRECKING YOUR CAR. "I really got to be there" is not a protective chant and wiil NOT stop you from WRECKING YOUR CAR. Everyone, just stay home and go to sleep. Thank you.

I had no problem with my morning commute at all. Every time the truck started sliding into a ditch it was already full and I bounced right back onto the road. This evening was a piece of cake.

The temps in Chatt have not gone above 36 all week. With very little sun and low temps, this snow is not melting! I think the streets are clear enough for me to go to work today. At least I'm going to try it as I'm getting a bit stir crazy hanging around the house. As much as I greatly complained about never having any time off, I've had a nice, long, relaxing stay-cation now. In fact, I haven't stepped foot outside my door since my walk around the block to look at the snow on Monday morning. I have cooked and cleaned and played video games until I'm bored enough to open up that set of weights I bought myself for Christmas and start lifting in the living room. Cable TV has given us such jewels as "Marathons" of Star Trek, Classic Green Hornet, and 1,000 Ways to Die. All fun shows, once a week... but we actually had the Green Hornet on for about 5 hours Tuesday. Dear Lord! Get me the hell out of here!

I think it's a sad note on the lack of entrepreneurial spirit that no neighbor kids of proper age ran around seeing if they could make a few bucks shoveling snow. I suspect many would gladly pay for that. They also don't try to get jobs raking or mowing yards anymore, they leave all that to the "pros" instead.
I think my brother made a killing with stuff like that. I'm not sure though if it's lack of prompting by parents planting the suggestion for their kids or that the kids themselves even if prompted just don't have the motivation to try. It's a shame either way.
