LONDON (AP) -- Amy Winehouse, the beehived soul-jazz diva whose self-destructive habits overshadowed a distinctive musical talent, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27. Winehouse shot to fame with the album "Back to Black," whose blend of jazz, soul, rock and classic pop was a global hit. It won five Grammys and made Winehouse - with her black beehive hairdo and old-fashioned sailor tattoos - one of music's most recognizable stars. Singer Amy Winehouse dies at age 27

On the positive side, her body fluids are selling on the streets for 60 bucks a milliliter.

A more moving, productive and respectful rumination from Russell Brand: "Now Amy Winehouse is dead, like many others whose unnecessary deaths have been retrospectively romanticised, at 27 years old. Whether this tragedy was preventable or not is now irrelevant. It is not preventable today. We have lost a beautiful and talented woman to this disease. Not all addicts have Amy's incredible talent. Or Kurt's or Jimi's or Janis's. Some people just get the affliction. All we can do is adapt the way we view this condition, not as a crime or a romantic affectation but as a disease that will kill. We need to review the way society treats addicts, not as criminals but as sick people in need of care. We need to look at the way our government funds rehabilitation. It is cheaper to rehabilitate an addict than to send them to prison, so criminalisation doesn't even make economic sense. Not all of us know someone with the incredible talent that Amy had but we all know drunks and junkies and they all need help and the help is out there. All they have to do is pick up the phone and make the call. Or not. Either way, there will be a phone call." www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jul/24/russell-brand-amy-winehouse-woman

Lets not be trolling. If you guys want to take shots at one another, do it somewhere else.
I deleted a couple of posts that I wouldn't have except although containing valid information/opinions had some "jabs" in them.
TSA: If you hate pomp then IGNORE the posts.... Pomp: If you hate TSA then IGNORE the posts....
You both are capable of great input, but little jabs at one another will only get the post deleted.

To mention Amy Winehouse's talents and put them in the same league as Hendrix, Morrison, and Joplin is nothing but a joke, not a haha joke but a joke none the less. Another thing, people that live a self destructive lifestyle generally self destruct. I look at all of them as victims of the 1960's "If it feels good, do it" philosophy, too bad it's still be perpetrated today.

There's no accounting for taste.
At any rate, she was seen by millions as a considerable talent, and anyone with a shred of decency and empathy understands the sadness of seeing another human being succumb to addiction.

156 thousand people die everyday, most of them aren't alcoholic, crackhead, heroin addicts. Save a little sadness for the innocents.

Joplin's talents were a matter of taste, as were all the 27ers that we're talking about Amy had skills. Her addictions might have hurt her but they may have "caused" her as well. We'll never know.

you guys should have had this party in the Entertainment section.
at least that way there would be a chance it wouldn't have been censored.
I wouldn't know an Amy Winehouse song if you put it in my CD player and told me that this is Amy Winehouse.

Yesterday she was just another strung-out singer; today, she's the "honored dead". I wonder if these musicians, music/writing would have been much different without the drugs. I'm thinking yes. I liked her music but I somehow doubt without the life experience to go with it her music wouldn't have had the same impact.

A lotta cats got strung out thinking smack would let them play like Bird. Didn't happen. The talent shines through DESPITE the dope, not because of it.

I wouldn't know an Amy Winehouse song if you put it in my CD player and told me that this is Amy Winehouse. I know that rehab song, Michael Savage sang it a couple times when she cancelled her European tour cause she was too fucked up to perform. He said then that she wouldn't make it to the end of the year. Noooo noooo no

She was a drug user, big time. Why the hell should a regret her passage?? She couldn't sing and wasnt' pretty. She used drugs to make her popular. She deserves what she did. She will serve time in Hell for what she promoted.

I feel sorry for her family who had to watch her choose to self-destruct. It was HER choice Komrade Gusano. But maybe one of these days you might see the benefits in freedom of choice... Sometimes the consequence of freedom is self destruction. Still, I'd rather risk having freedom.

Well, well, well. My dear Ohwell, there are a myriad of reasons that people use drugs but seeking popularity is not one of them. I remain ignorant of what planet you hail from, but feel it is time you returned.
