I know Bea's is a Chattanooga staple... but somehow I had never been before today. I heard it was a buffet, but wow. My wife & I had a table to ourselves and had enough food to feed 8 grown men. I felt so guilty that the leftovers were going to be trashed that I ate more than I normally would. Very good food and great service. But all that food on your table is a bit of a waste... ?

The food on the table (the carousel) is the buffet.

I think the place is pretty overrated. I mean the food is pretty good but I'm not too fond of sitting around a spinning table sharing food with a bunch of strangers.
If i want good fried chicken (which isn't often) I'll go to Champy's have a forty and watch the game, all while not having to share my food with random a-holes.

Speaking of random a-holes, nevermind...no need to go there. Went to Bea's once.

Well aware of that JC, but they didn't sit us with anyone else... and didn't put anyone with us. But that may have been due to us having two kids with us. We asked the waitress what was going to happen to all these leftover and she said it would probably be trashed. I couldn't imagine that food sitting there while we ate (30min), then someone sitting down after we left to dig into the leftovers. It's a cool idea, but flawed. I suppose if you went in there with a big family/group it would make more sense.

I went to Bea's once,I don't like the trough feel. Someone went yesterday and said they have raised their prices.

Bea's is ok, but the best chicken is at Jenkins Buffet in East Ridge.

Like everything ELSE from that area, it was great in it's day, when the only communicable disease you had to worry about was pyorrhea.
Any buffet-style setup is a trick bag now; hell, I've seen little kids licking the serving spoons and putting their hands in the bins after picking their little buns, as kids are wont to do, not to MENTION the peccadilloes of the ADULTS!
Plus, last time I had anything to do with that zone, you had to be out by dark and pretty much post a guard on your car if you drove anything newer than an '85 POS

Yep Bea's is so horrible, try getting in the place around noon on ANY Sunday. You would stand a better chance getting into Hamilton Place Outback faster on a Friday night during Christmas season.

Near as I can tell anyplace that's open is jammed Sunday at noon. A busy restaurant does not equal a good one, especially the two mentioned above.

It has struck me to be a little un-balanced. When I once worked in a kitchen, we had a surprise inspection and we got docked for all sorts of little things like the burgers coming off the grille, didn't stay above a certain temp before they were put on the line... You can't pull 30+ burgers that fast... Yet you see so many buffets with food just sitting around. Almost seems like buffet's get breaks on some of the rules...

There's no accounting for taste, and for the supplicants of the rotary buffet, I'm sure the fare is just as satisfying as my coq' au vin.

I'm thinking that when Bea's opened, there weren't any, or at least many, buffets, so their idea was a novelty. Now, most places have a buffet or salad bar, it seems.

Yeah, a bacteria bar, as I like to call it.
The Peddler atop the Uptain Building was the best; had anchovies.
