Is there another Chattanooga forum out there? This one has gotten pretty lame.

Well there is a point to be made with that first post. The General Discussion, Photo Gallery, Vids and Funny's and For Sale lay silent for days. I do remember the days that if you didn't check the forum twice a day you missed a thread completely.
And Notta parties..... When was the last Notta party? Christmas, two years ago?

People don't post often any more and since some of the more annoying trolls are gone its a lot quieter. Which brings up the old argument about what is better, an active board of mostly name calling and one-upping each other or a few intelligent conversations?
To answer the original question, I think this is the only or is the most active forum in Chattanooga and I believe it has a lot to do with facebook.
Even one of the largest forums in the world, photocamel is down where a post will stay on a page for days where a year or so ago it would scroll off the page within the hour.

another point to make is this. in the last 24 hours - 5 Staff Members, 33 Members, 543 Guests
so if a few of those 543 would log in and contribute, things would probably pick up.

requiring guests to sign up will drive them away before it sucks them in. there is no more "must see" threads going on here.
the most interesting and heavily opinionated event that's happened in quite some time does not even have a mention on this message board. The Corey Smith/Track 29 incident.
the cops talk to themselves. a homosexual & a few of the cops, a couple regular obama or bush bashers, & a few smart asses drop in from time to time to try to have a little fun. oh and there are a bunch of pictures.
that's about all this message board has these days. a once heavily traveled and participated board has gone very bland. It's a damn shame.
I know I'll get somebody talking junk after this comment but: After the media censorship went so heavy that's when this site started dying.
It was the only place where media members & listener/fans could interact so closely. Now nobody is listening, reading, or commenting.
good night now.

Bryan, yeah I pretty much agree with you. Why don't you help us out? When nobody has mentioned something "discussion worthy" please post it. I live under a rock, didn't know about the cory smith thing until it was a week old.
That's one of the problems I think. People think "they" should post this or "they" need to talk about that without realizing "they" needs to be "I" more often.

People spend an hour or two cruising the web and facebooking, doesn't leave a lot of time for foruming. Used to be up to 75-80 members a day at least logging in, whether they posted or not. Now I think members visit here 2-3-4 times a day without logging in which explains the high guest rate.

Most of the new posters we get lately end up rubbing the moderators the wrong way and get either banned, sidelined, or marginalized in some way until they say "fuck it" and disappear. Those posters could be quite annoying, but they generated posts and we are worse off without them.
Most of us who have been on here for a while are already pretty familiar with each others opinions on most issues. For instance, the Police Moderator started a thread about police militarization a few days ago and it got nothing. That's an important topic to me and I have strong feelings about it, but we've had that conversation before, so I felt no need to have the same old argument with PM that I've had before.
We need some fresh topics or fresh members or both.

Two opinions on that BF. I know many that quit coming *because* of those self-same folks you miss. Their behavior drove away as many as you think they brought in. There's only so long anyone wants to watch a couple folks toss around insults before they start wondering what happened to the debate and when it turned into a mosh pit.

I think it is an evolution, natural selection, so to speak. I read daily, rarely post unless it is in the Photo Gallery. Given the political climate in the country today it is difficult to have a reasonable debate, especially in a forum setting. However, I did see the Kordax up in here a few days ago.

There's only so long anyone wants to watch a couple folks toss around insults before they start wondering what happened to the debate and when it turned into a mosh pit. I agree that folks should try to be civil, and yes, I know of at least one poster that I know personally that doesn't show up as often anymore because he got tired of being picked apart and hounded by a recently departed member. Happy medium I guess. Duke being gone may make the police moderator happy, but it makes the Police Forum a lot more boring. Pompey going away may give Justin Thyme less headaches, but it takes away from the discussion. I miss LongShot's profanity laced diatribes, even when they were directed at me. Limited Recourse doesn't really enter the fray anymore, and Tsavodiner pretty much just threadshits. There used to be other cops that posted a lot too, but they seemed to have decided collectively to practice discretion. Maybe as the election year heats up, this board will as well.

Here's my take, purely from the point of someone who rarely posts here.
I've read the board regularly for several years now. I have often found it to be an informative and entertaining place for local information/discussion.. but much more so in the past than it is now. Social media has been around for quite a while now, it doesn't seem like it would do THAT much damage to the board, but I'm not going to pretend to know for sure. I'm on a couple of other non-local boards, and they haven't changed that much over the same period of time.
I will say that one of the reasons I almost never post here is that there is a lot of negativity/anger/attitude/clique-ishness (I might have made that word up) here. Toes are too easily stepped on and feelings are too easily hurt. While there are quite a few people here who seem really cool, there are also quite a few who seem to exist to make everyone else here miserable. A "new" viewer of the board might not feel too welcome automatically. That's just my impression. It certainly doesn't scare me here, but I don't feel that welcome to join in. I'm guessing others feel the same.

I've been busy. I try to post something at least once a day, but frankly I haven't seen a whole lot of topics that interest me enough to comment on.

Thank you for that insight. That is part of what has driven some of the recent banninations. If a new person can't come in without waving the "I'm a troll" banner, then we've allowed too much poor attitude to reign. I would love to see this forum return to the former open nature where we can share news of our neighborhoods and learn from each other rather than merely sniping and bickering over minutia or political theory.

I think that's probably a ball that we, the mods, need to pick up. Making lurkers not post is easier than making them feel welcome enough to comment. Not sure how but I think keeping people from taking shots that have nothing to do with the discussion is a start...

I never had the maladroit idea I'd change the world or legalize pot by posting here. I'm just having fun.
Some of my buds did, so I did too. Like you said, they got sick of reinventing the wheel and moved on. If I "threadshit " and it annoys somebody then I know they're not a follower of Ayn Rand: "Tell me what you think of me". "I don't think of you at all".
Somebody needs to recruit RTN (again)

That leaves you guys to comment on stuff you see, or hear.

Mentioning Fredoland isn't taboo here, it's just usually thought to be in bad form to promote it here. It would be the same to try to promote this board over there. But if something is mentioned there that would make interesting conversation here and isn't just blatant gossip I see no problem with it being brought up here. There was another board called Chattanooga Forum that tried to make a go of it for awhile but I think it is now defunct. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Now this is the most lively discussion I've seen here in a while. Given the discussion, perhaps Black Fox would like to recant his snide initial response to my question. That sort of behavior is why some of us don’t post more often.
