Auburn may have gone all the way down the field to win anyway. They may have not, and won in overtime. But to be given so many yards for free by the refs is an injustice. His knee wasn't down, no, but that should not have mattered. His entire weight was on his chest, which was on the defenders chest, who was laying flat on his back on the ground. At that point, he was down, period.

just another bad college football rule. the exact kind of play happened in the Rose Bowl and it was overturned b/c the runner's wrist touched the ground which is the same as a knee or an elbow.
but in this case dude's palm was on the ground which is not the same.
I agree that the rule should be that he was down. Mainly b/c his elbow was on the defender who was on the ground. WHich in turn should be an extension of the turf. But that's not how the rule is defined.
another reason why college football sucks.

Elbow hell, his entire weight was on his chest, which was on the player who was flat on the ground. Like I said, it may not have mattered in the end, but I hated to see it end that way.
