at about 1 am our Smoke alarm went off. Yes panic ensued. Once I determined our house was not ablaze and yet filled with smoke I began to look around outside and smoke was EVERYWHERE. I rode around looking for whatever is doing this. All I found was a smoke cloud covering a large area from Access Rd back into Red Bank.
Anyone know whats up?
I guess we sleep with the windows closed tonight.

Probably the forest fire on Walden's Ridge near Roberts Mill Road.
One of several they have been fighting all weekend.

I left work at the Bend about 12:30 am. The smoke was visible on Manufactors Rd. The odor was still strong at my house in Stuart Heights. We had to sleep with the windows shut also. This morning, you can still smell it. I pulled up local news, but couldn't find anything. Marvell thought it might be brush fires. I can't believe there is nothing in the news about it!

If it doesn't concern unruly youths at the River Park or school administrators being paid better than commissioners, it ain't news.
Chattanooga: Love it.

I can't believe there is nothing in the news about it! I'm with you, Babs...A couple of weeks ago around 7:20 a.m., I came out of the Wilcox Tunnel headed toward the river, looked to my right (around Dodson Ave or Greenwood) and saw an enormous fat plume of black smoke rising into the air. Being neither morbidly curious nor a fire expert, I kept going and didn't try to check it out...but it would have been ?reassuring? ?enlightening? to hear something about it on radio, at the very least. Nada. I guess June Griffin didn't start it, 'cause otherwise, we'd be hearing about it around the clock.

Here is a link to the TFP coverage of the two fires in today's paper: Today's TFPEdited to say that I can't get the exact link to work. Click on "Local/Region" and on the "wildfires" topic.

Someone at church this morning said there were 3 fires, one close to Prentice Cooper near Alexian Village, one out somewhere in Walden and they didn't mention where the 3rd one was. The one near Prentice Cooper is the one I'm worried about, my parents live close to there and my daughter is up there.

*I haven't smoked at work in some time now; the cigars tend to distract me from properly expressing myself to people.

They thought they had them out, but I heard them tone the fire dogs out again this afternoon. Talk about miserable, back-breaking work. But they are volunteers, so they don't count. Yep, I still remember the sick joke, made once! And where is the fire? A mountain nearby? Hope they don't remember! My hat is off to them. Still.

And there's fire on the mountain, lightnin' in the air Gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there Fire on the mountain, lightnin' in the air Gold in them hills and it's waitin' for me there Waitin' for me there......... Smells pretty toasty up here tonight. Must be time to break out the marshmallows. The left side of the mountain, looking from the front, is the side where the fire would jump over the river at. That side of the mountain is all historic area. The houses around the edges are all multi-million dollar houses, and the rest of them are simply irreplaceable and their history, sooooo...... If the fire DOES jump the river it'll be put out by midnight. Two reasons for that - #1 - there are a lot of judges, commissioners on that bluff. #2 - (more logistically) They are prepared for the fire to jump the river. If it does, the fire will be just starting, they will be there ready to put it out, and it'll be in it's infant stage rather than widespread so it will be small enough to deal with.
Originally the forecast was for rain today, but it changed to wednesday.
Interestingly, I saw a ring around the moon last night whilst taking our rat terrier out for her bedtime stroll. Maybe we'll get lucky & have a shower to get the smoke out of the air. It's messing with everyone's allergies & ability to breathe.
