A downtown restaurant is closing its doors. It's been sold to another restaurant in a deal the owner says she couldn't refuse. After almost five years Table 2 Grill and Lounge downtown has closed for good. It wasn't a lack of business, or profit, rather a family decision, but still came as a shock to many regulars. "It's very sad to see, anytime a local owned business goes out we hate to see that. Particularly those of us who live and work in the downtown area," said Table 2 regular John Buchan. One by one regulars were stopped in their tracks outside their favorite local restaurant Table 2. Open since 2007, but as of Thursday closed for good. Another regular, John McDougal said, "it's not like they don't have customers or the food is bad, at this point I'm surprised, there weren't any rumors, it just came up out of the blue." www.wrcbtv.com/story/16963295/table-2-closes-sekisui-leasing-space

I ate there one time as well. I thought it was freaking fantastic.
it was my brother's birthday and the entire thing was on my dad's dime. But the place was definitely too FrouFrou for me. The entire dog and pony show w/ the wine, the description, the showing the labels before opening and giving everybody a smell and taste before the glass is poured, etc. etc. - I get it, that's how it goes. Just not my scene.
$20 - $30 starting prices for any entree. it's stellar quality & service but it's too pricey and over-the-top status-symbol style dining for me.
apparently for many others as well b/c it didn't last.
more than 6 months though, so they got that going for them.

Closer to five years, Bryan. And it wasn't economics that ended their run, it was too good an offer to refuse for the space itself.
We ate there once (had a gift certificate) and thought the food was fantastic, as well.

That happened over here by the mall, we loved the restaurant that was where sticky fingers is now. When we found out they were closing our waitress said the owners had been made such a huge offer it was silly to refuse.

I'm happy that Suckisushi is moving out of the aquarium district, I never have enjoyed the place even after repeated tries.

Overpriced elitist bullshit restaurant. Notice how places like this come and go in a blink of eye, but Mt. Vernons, Beas and Zarzours last forever? There's a reason for that: good food with no arrogance.

Whew! I think they were sincere in wanting to present good food and a unique environment. Their first chef was interesting, his sucessor not so much, and the quality of food dropped between the two. None the less; workman like and honest, if not memorable. I thought their wine snob was pretentious and had limited taste (despite having studied to be a professional sommelier OOooo!). I don't recall the wine mark-up to have been any worse then most "fine'dining" places here. They deserve credit for trying to bring something new to Chattapatch, and trying to educate diners beyond the familiar.

I will miss Table Two. I only went there around 10 times but really liked it, especially that hot stone appetizer. Their location was terrible though. A lot of the clientelle looking for a nicer restaurant like that may not have wanted to park there at night.
If it was too Frou Frou for you, Chattanooga still has plenty Waffle Houses ;-) No place will ever appeal to everyone. Personally I'll take Frou Frou any day over scattered and splattered...
The poor location will not be wasted on Suckysushi and now that prime location by the Aquarium is open for a better restaurant. I hope something good moves in.

I cannot speak/write to Zarzours as I have never been able to dine there. However, IMHO, Bea's and Mt. Vernon are highly overrated by many folks.

My impression of Mt. Vernon: overpriced mediocre food eaten in a funeral home-like setting.

My boss took me and my co-worker to lunch at Mt. Vernon a few months back. The service was so-so and my boss didn't leave a tip. The waitress chased her to the parking lot asking if she had forgotten anything...unbelievable!

Zarzours Eats and Jackie's Treats closed. The Zarzours on Rossville Ave. is still open.
