an assault rifle is defined as a military weapon capable of fully automatic fire. the rifle used was a semi-auto civilian ar-15, not an assault rifle. the process for buying a fully automatic firearm typically takes six months to a year to be approved. so your request is already law.

I still think a six month waiting period isn't a bad idea and an extensive background, as in one like when you apply for a CCP when buying any weapon that has a magazine capacity greater than say 20 rounds. As to the weapons pictured above the bottom one may pass as a hunting rifle but I have never seen anyone hunt with 30 round clip and I have hunted everything from rabbit, and varmints to deer. If you need a thirty round clip to hunt you are either a piss poor hunter or a piss poor shot.
And as I said we can agree to disagree. The issue is not so much the tool as the easy availability.

Splitting hairs here, AR-15, 223 caliber and semi auto capability is an assault rifle in my opinion, the issue of full auto vs semi auto may by definition change the classification but is pretty much BS. I carried a CAR-15 in Nam for a year and never once shot it in full auto mode during any fire fight. When you do shoot in full auto you are taught to shoot in pretty much three round bursts, which you can do just about as fast in semi auto mode. Just my two cents.

Do you really have one?
Weapon carry licenses are issued immediately in Catoosa County. They use the FBI's NCIS to screen applicants. It's the same background check you have to pass to purchase a gun from a dealer.
I think it's illegal to hunt anything with one. But the Second Amendment, gun ownership and mags of any capacity is not about hunting. DC vs. Heller ruled that citizens have the right to own guns. Hunting is not a condition of that right.

He wasn't wearing body armor at all. www.sfgate.com/news/article/Retailer-who-sold-to-Holmes-getting-backlash-3730881.php"TacticalGear.com filled an order received on July 2 from Holmes, who allegedly opened fire inside an Aurora, Colo., theater on Friday, killing 12 people. Holmes paid $306.79 for an urban assault vest, two magazine pouches and a tactical knife. Chief Executive Officer Chad Weinman said despite its name, the urban assault vest is not bulletproof, but is simply a vest made for carrying accessories." This is a black version of a hunting vest. Guess frayne will want these evil looking things banned now.

WASHINGTON — Days after the mass shootings in Colorado, guns shifted to the forefront of the presidential campaign as President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney engaged in their most extensive discussions on the issue since the tragedy. Obama, in a speech to an African-American group Wednesday in New Orleans, embraced some degree of additional restrictions on guns. He acknowledged that not enough had been done to prevent weapons from getting into the hands of criminals and pledged to work with lawmakers from both parties to move forward on the matter. Romney said in a television interview that changing the nation's laws would not prevent gun-related tragedies. But he mistakenly said many weapons used by the shooting suspect in Aurora, Colo., were obtained illegally, despite the fact that authorities allege that the firearms used to kill 12 people and injure dozens more were purchased legally. www.newsday.com/news/nation/gun-violence-shifts-to-forefront-of-campaign-1.3861551

I do have a CCP from Catoosa county and when I first applied, it took about four weeks to get my permit. Keep in mind that was five years ago as I just recently had to renew it, complete now with a picture on the permit card. I was under the impression it was a more detailed background check than what is done during a firearm purchase, evidently I was wrong.

Every study has shown that more private gun ownership leads to less crime.
Of COURSE the progressives want to ban them.

We were gonna track 'em, but we lost 'em. sorry. Holder is doing an incredible job of treading water in the shitstorm...
