It may have been just an hour of cookies and punch, but a recent reception sponsored by East Ridge city officials for a congressional candidate is drawing questions about how local taxpayer money may be used. About 25 East Ridge employees milled in the lobby of East Ridge's City Hall on July 13, shaking hands and making small talk with Scottie Mayfield, a Republican running for Tennessee's 3rd District seat. The reception took place while employees were on the clock, and about $80 was spent on snacks for the employees. City Manager Tim Gobble insisted that the reception was not meant to be an endorsement and was an attempt to be "hospitable," but other city leaders have said it was an inappropriate use of city funds. www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jul/25/scottie-mayfield-reception-raises-eyebrows/

Tim Gobble is awesome, and should have been congressman, instead of the dufus we have.

Well an opponent is my best guess. This site has the markers of the Wamp (BUBU's), I believe. Chattanoogan.com has a banner ad with links to this website. It is kind of strange and perverted looking in my opinion. hehe www.mayfieldmilkdud.com/

Ask and I shall receive: From www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jul/26/super-pac-running-anti-scottie-mayfield-ad-3rd-dis/?breakingnewsBankrolled by the Citizens for a Working America “super PAC,” the television ad attacks dairy executive Scottie Mayfield. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Citizens for a Working America is based in Lancaster, Va. Federal law prohibits campaigns from coordinating with “super PACs.” Mayfield’s top opponents, incumbent U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and Weston Wamp, denied any involvement in producing the ad. Mayfield spokesman Joe Hendrix doubted those denials. “It does not make sense that an out-of-state PAC, funded by huge contributions unrelated to our district would get involved here without encouragement or direction from a campaign,” he said. I would bet on Wamp's campaign people being behind this to ensure Wamp captures the NO. 2 spot. As us old timers remember, the Wamp MO is to keep running until you overtake opposition, ie Marilyn Loyd. Midnight mailers.....

Yahoo! Our representative will be: a) A puppet with no thoughts of his own and no apparent ability to work well with others, b) A completely inexperienced scion of an institutional politician campaigning on cliches and slogans, or c) A completely out-of-touch rich man who has no program or ideas who has already shown he won't keep his word.
God (or Eternal Spirit or nothingness) bless America! We need it. although we don't deserve it.

Tsavodiner, I am not sure what you are referring to. My family volunteered for Tim Gobble for Congress through Aug. 2010. We are a fan of Tim Gobble's. I knew him when he was a Cleveland Council person, and worked for the Secret Service. He is very impressive.
I thought Tim Gobble was a better choice than Chuck Fleishmann. That is what I meant. I am not a fan of any of the Congressional candidates really. I just held my nose and voted R. Really, the best candidate for congress is Bill Taylor (D).

Agree. East Ridge is a Mecca of dysfunction. If past behavior dictates future, it is just a matter of time before they fire him. I wish we had him in Chattanooga to run for Mayor.

Ecuador looks better every day. It depends on what you are looking for. As long as you aren't looking for a refuge from gun violence it's probably okay. According to the U.N., the U.S. had 3.0 firearm homicides per 100,000 in population in 2009. But there were 14 other nations that had higher rates in 2009, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean: Honduras (57.6), Jamaica (47.2), St. Kitts and Nevis (44.4), Venezuela (39.0), Guatemala (38.5), Colombia (28.1), Trinidad & Tobago (27.3), Panama (19.3), Dominican Republic (16.9), Bahamas (15.4), Belize (15.4), Mexico (7.9), Paraguay (7.3) and Nicaragua (5.9). Three other nations had higher rates in 2008: El Salvador (39.9), Brazil (18.1) and Ecuador (12.7). from Politifact article.

Justin, I will hand it to you, you are absolutely the best at bringing up an issue that has not a damn thing to do with the thread as started. WTF?
