JERUSALEM — Mitt Romney told Jewish donors Monday that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the nearby Palestinians, outraging Palestinian leaders who called his comments racist and out of touch. “As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,” the Republican presidential candidate told about 40 wealthy donors who breakfasted around a U-shaped table at the luxurious King David Hotel. The reaction of Palestinian leaders to Romney’s comments was swift and pointed. “What is this man doing here?” said Saeb Erekat, a top Palestinian official. “Yesterday, he destroyed negotiations by saying Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and today he is saying Israeli culture is more advanced than Palestinian culture. Isn’t this racism?” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/romney-raising-campaign-cash-in-israel-before-heading-to-poland-final-leg-of-trip/2012/07/30/gJQAjdveJX_story.html

Yeah, I am sure the reason for the difference has nothing to do with the fact the Palistineans live under a military occupation.
At least people will not be surprised at Romney's prowess in foreign relations if he is elected.

People keep bringing up stuff like Romney having foreign bank accounts and Romney paying an effective tax rate of 13% as reasons not to elect him. I have no problem with those things. It's things like this, and there are way too many instances of such, that gives me the reasons not to vote for him. I wish people would stick to the issues that matter.

Not everyone agrees on which issues matter.

From the advance copy of his speech in Poland later today:
"An Englishman, a Jew, and a Polock walk into this bar...."

To a lot of libertarian/conservatives like myself, having offshore tax shelters is a major red flag and an "issue that matters".

To a lot of libertarian/conservatives like myself, having offshore tax shelters is a major red flag and an "issue that matters". I'm figuring those must mostly be legal or he would be in hot water over them and as far as tax shelters and tax avoidance goes I'm all for anyone taking every legal deduction they have available to them to lessen their legal tax liability and structuring their debt in whatever way exposes them to the least tax liability. And maybe the offshore banks were offering free toasters or something. The accounts appear to be legal so what's the fuss. On the other hand, his insistence that Jews are culturally superior to Palestinians without even considering the conditions under which the two cultures compete shows a dangerous understanding of foreign affairs and diplomacy. I admit I may be a little touchy about this due to the fact that Tulsa is stationed in Jordan right now but this falls on the heels of him insulting the Brits over their Olympics. Isn't one of his examples of qualifications for running this country is that he turned around the SLC Olympics?

Comparing the net incomes of two different nations is as racist as comparing the soil quality of two different nations. Hate is an ugly thing to behold.

It wasn't comparing the income that's being called out darlin, it's claiming the disparity is due to cultural superiority that's being called out.

If elected, wonder how long Romney will take before he conquers the holy land?

If you don't want another four years of Obama your only alternative to something worse is Gary Johnson.

If you don't want another four years of Obama your only alternative to something worse is Gary Johnson. Who is he? I always wonder about the odd-ball voters. "I'm above the electable candidates. I have to be odd an unusual and vote for someone that has no chance to win" type people. This election is about one thing, "for the current president" or not. Johnson will get a small number of votes, probably whatever could be attributed to the margin of voter error., You Johnson voters can feel smug and superior to the rest of the populace who voted for actual candidates, but most people have learned from the whole Perot debacle. :-) If you want to be really cool why don't you vote for Basil Marceaux. He's really obscure and cool. Why don't you save gas and write "Basil Marceaux" on a paper airplane and throw it out the window and hope someone from the election commission will find and tabulate it. You could be his running mate, that'd be super-cool. Basil and Thyme 2012? "The Herb party", since weed is the only thing Libertarians are about anyway. :-)

LR, Romney is just not fit to be president. If you don't want another four years of Obama your only alternative to something worse is Gary Johnson. Who is he? He's a two term governor of New Mexico. He's a self made millionaire. He's climbed Mt. Everest and is a very competitive triathlete. He has been consistent in his political philosophy so he is someone that you can be assured that that what he says is what he'll do. Looking at his life experiences he's much more attractive for the office of president than Mitt Romney or Barack Obama. That is who he is. He's not another Ross Perot, he's a man with a very successful business and political career. I consider Governor Johnson to be electable but in the end there will be only one electable candidate. In the end either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, or possibly both, will prove to have not been an electable candidate. In 2008, when all was said and done we see that Bob Barr was every bit as electable as John McCain.

It wasn't McCain who was unelectable, he actually might have made it without the anchor of the Palin female.

It was McCain's decision to run with Palin as a running mate. That made him as unelectable as Barr. He didn't win so he was unelectable regardless of the reason.
