Our students are slipping in their understanding of the sciences and this man is the Chairman of the Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee for the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Congressman calls evolution lie from 'pit of hell'
The Associated Press ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Rep. Paul Broun said in videotaped remarks that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell" meant to convince people that they do not need a savior.
The Republican lawmaker made those comments during a speech Sept. 27 at a sportsman's banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell. Broun, a medical doctor, is running for re-election in November unopposed by Democrats.
"God's word is true," Broun said, according to a video posted on the church's website. "I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell. And it's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior."
(Continued) Broun is running unopposed.

You can't run against that level of ingrained ignorance. It's baked in at this point.

WHHAAAATTT?
I'd think you'd LEAP at the chance to put this backwoods Okie ignoramus Bible-thumping troglodyte redneck in his PLACE!
That you'd relocate six generations of your entire family for the opportunity to strike a telling blow for EQUALITY, PEACE, and FREEDOM by silencing this apostate of the New Age!
How can you SLEEP nights knowing the poor, uneducated people of this benighted district are subjugated by such palaver?!?!
WEAKLINGS! COWARDS! VACILLATORS! EQUIVOCATORS!

Ridiculing belief systems? Good Nazi strategy. Obama would be proud.

I have no problem with Broun's belief system. I have a problem with him holding these beliefs while being Chairman of a subcommittee involved in funding projects of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. If he doesn't believe in science he shouldn't be involved in funding science programs.

Johnson and Biden were both trying to use their wacky beliefs to influence policy and politics. If this guy's beliefs bar him from holding a public position, where would people like you and Blackfox end the purges? The guy believes the big bang theory and evolution are incorrect, so if I went to Athens would all the science books be purged of references to the big bang theory and evolution? I guess that only one side really does all the purging... We could ask the Chick Fil A guy about his stores in metro Chicago.

Ridiculing belief systems? Good Nazi strategy. Obama would be proud. The scary thing is according to some his religious beliefs disqualify him from holding his position. In the video, which was famous in the Atlanta area, Johnson is asking the military guy how many troops could Guam hold before it tipped over... He was reelected of course.

If this guy's beliefs bar him from holding a public position, where would people like you and Blackfox end the purges? They don't bar him from holding office, they bar him from getting my support. He isn't in my district but he represents my state. That's why I blame the Democrats. He's running unopposed in a district that it is possible for a conservative Democrat to win. Look, I have no problem at all with his basic religious beliefs. He and I probably have a lot in common there but his statement was about superstitious beliefs that he's confusing with his religion and those beliefs are incompatible with my beliefs of someone holding the office he holds and with someone I want sitting on the committee he sits on. I'm not asking that he be impeached, I'm asking that the Democratic Party step up and run someone against him that is more inline with my beliefs. Let the voters decide by giving them someone to decide between.

People get to vote for anybody they please regardless of their scientific, religious, or political beliefs or lack thereof--that's the beauty of it.
John Conyers, Maxine Waters, Carolyn Mosley-Braun, that idiot Jon Tester, even Ron Littlehead--or Andre McGary, who even Andy Berke won't endorse against Todd Gardenhire, who the Republicans repudiated after he whipped that little ponce Vital. Weird.

I have a problem with him holding these beliefs while being Chairman of a subcommittee involved in funding projects of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. If he doesn't believe in science he shouldn't be involved in funding science programs. How does this jibe with your libertarianism? If you do hold libertarian beliefs, then why should it matter what he believes? After all, why should libertarians support public education, committees, subcommittees, publically supporting science or technology? Aren't libertarians against all of this? You say this doctor does not believe in science. He may or may not believe in science. Just because you and him may disagree does not mean he does not believe in science. Seeing how he has spent a great deal of his life as a doctor, he probaby has a strong science background. It goes back to what I wrote, how much purging? Is he representing his constitutents? Probably so. Do you live in Athens or Clark County. Do you have kids in his school. Is he screening the books to see that they fit his narrow view of creationism or cosmology? Again, did you post the video of Hank Johnson trying to dictate law and policy when he said that Guam would tip over? It seems like some of you all are very selective. Are we going to follow all of our politicans around in their public lives, to transcribe what they say to churches. Screen their religious beliefs? Did you post any of Biden's recent gaffes? Are you a Johnson supporter, a proud libertarian, above the the great unwashed? Have you brought up the video that Obama gaven in church? I must have missed your critique. "I know our economy is in the shitter, but this guy believes in creationism. Get rid of him!" It seems like you all are easily fooled by smoke and mirrors." "Never mind the economy sucks, what about Big Bird." "Can you believe this guy has the nerve to say something I do not agree with?!?!" If our country is off the tracks, how could we address any secondary issues? It astounds me that in this time where record numbers of people are falling off the radar that people are worried about petty crap. You all can get back to railing against Chick-Fil-A and how they should be shut down because the guy does not tow the party line... I'll make it simple. Should we be focused on anything but the economy right now?

When did I ever claim to be a libertarian? On Sept 19th 2011 you were confirmed as a Libertarian. Realizing of course that you never claimed to be a Libertarian, you were confirmed by majority vote.

When did I ever claim to be a libertarian? What irks you more, being accused of having an identifiable and understandable point of view or being labeled a libertarian?

When the electorate demands extremism, they get it. From both sides.
If the electorate demands mediocrity, they get that also.
We can't hardly blame these idiots that were duly elected, can we?
